Obituary in the Melrose Beacon Newspaper, Thursday, October 17, 1940:
Long Time Resident of City and Community Died Last Thursday; Funeral Held Saturday
The funeral of Jacob Klapperich, age 78 years was held at the St. Boniface church here Saturday morning at 9 o'clock with Rev. Father L. J. Haupt officiating. Henry Bentfield was cross bearer and the pall bearers were Andrew Haider, Chas. Pimpl, John Springer, Ben Fuechtmann, Roman Weitzel and Barney Schulte. The deceased was a member of the Rosary Sodality. Jacob Klapperich was born at St. Anna, Wis. on February 2, 1862. He came to new Munich when eight years old. He married Apollonia Homberg at New Munich on November 26, 1884. Mr. Klapperich was in partnership with his brother, Steve, in the store business at New Munich and after retiring he lived 3 years at New Munich and 17 years at Melrose. Death occurred on Thursday morning at 5:30 o'clock, October 10th. He had been ill with a weak heart for two months and was taken to bed Sunday previous to his death and suffered a stroke on Tuesday. Besides his wife the following children survive: Mary at home; William and Peter of Melrose; Mrs. Joseph Schaefers of New Munich; Katie of Willmar; Mrs. Charles Hageman of St. Paul and Mrs. Wallace Peterson of Sauk Centre. A daughter Gertrude died in 1910 at New Munich. There are 13 grandchildren. Among those from out-of-town at the funeral were: Casper Zierden and Joe Hoppe, of St. Joseph; John Zierden and Claude Rieland, of Elrosa; Mr. and Mrs. Math Zierden; Mr. and Mrs. Alois Zierden; Mr. and Mrs. George Zierden; Mr. and Mrs. John Funk; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dierkhising and Peter Zierden of New Munich.
