Good morning. Michelle continues to do very well. Thought she was going to move yesterday from intensive care, but that is now happening this morning. She's much more alert now, but still very drowsy. Part of that is due to a low blood count limiting the oxygen delivery throughout her body. Once that is raised a bit (through eating some high iron food / iron supplements), she should have some more energy. There was some discussion about a blood transfusion to help in this area, but there's not a pressing need for it right now. She is progressing nicely and will be moved out of ICU this morning.
I drove home and saw the kids for about 30 minutes yesterday before heading back to the hospital. Although they say they miss me and Michelle, they are doing just fine being cared for by Grandpa and Grandma Haight. They even got to go to Wendy's last night and had french fries - a rare treat for them (woo hoo). I think they'll be able to come up to the hospital to see mom today.
As for me, I'm doing well. There are many anxious parents around waiting for their babies to come out of surgery. In the waiting room, you kind of hold your breath when the doctors come in and talk with the families. Its not always good news. Some ask how my baby is doing. I tell them a bit about Michelle and hope it perhaps can give them some comfort about positive outcomes, since she was once a baby getting open heart surgery. One particular young man sat and watched the Tiger game with me last night. He was from Kansas and his daughter was undergoing her 3rd heart surgery. She is doing well, and it was nice to just sit and watch some baseball late at night.
Well, that's about it for now. Going to check to see if Michelle is ready to move to the "floor" as they call it.
Love and Peace to all of you. -Dave
