Happy Memorial Day Monday. Last week's "World Travels Day" at school was incredible. If I could make a career of planning and organizing children international/diversity events - I would be all set. It truly is my passion to create opportunities that promote understanding and inclusion of minority ethnic groups. Boy, that's a mouthful. But really - it was a great day, we had 12 countries represented, I did the Italy booth and coordinated the event. I brought my pasta maker and the kids made "paper fettuccine" (above) - it was a huge hit.
Speaking of career - I interviewed for the position at our church last Tuesday. The interview went incredibly well. I was on such a high from earlier in day -- we had the assembly at school. I brought in a West African drum & dance troupe from Ann Arbor. They were unbelievable! The teachers and kids said it was the best assembly they had ever seen. Beforehand, I received some slack regarding the group, parents were worried because the notion was a little too "out of the box" for them - I think some people have limited exposure and aren't interested in trying something new. Boy, did Ryan and his fellow artists prove change is good. It was the best concert I've been to in a while. I bought their CD - listening to it right now.
I should hear back on the job by Wednesday. I haven't made a decision of whether I would take the job - I like the idea of an income and much flexibility. As Education Director - I would certainly be working in my field - but I just don't know if that is the route I want to follow. With my teacher certification in hand, pursuing a teaching position also sounds good. Teaching would be greater responsibility and a greater time requirement. I wish the decision of what to do would be obvious.
Other things in life are going well. Dave and the kids are doing wonderful. Dom, Marisa & Natalie love that I'm so involved at their school. They feel like celebrities. All three are so excited for summer - - and I am too. I think back to last year at this time - how depressed and scared I was. I am so blessed to have so much in front of me, and there is so much stuff to get done.
Well - speaking of things to get done, I'd better get breakfast for the kids. We are heading over to Earl & Iole's this afternoon, they returned from their latest Europe excursion yesterday. Have a most beautiful day and a marvelous week,
Always, Michelle
