Hi there, Happy Wednesday. I know I just wrote an entry the other day - but I have been feeling nostalgic and wanted to write again. The picture above is from when we stopped in Lakeland. It was a gorgeous day and a great opportunity to see the players up close. Dom got three autographs and Dave was able to chat with Fernando Rodney for a little while. As March and April approach, I get so excited about baseball. Some of it is just the sheer joy of watching Dominic in his glory. He is so funny -- he literally walks around the house with a ball and glove in hand, looking for any poor sap that will play catch with him. If a grandpa comes over, he's ecstatic - someone to pitch balls to him in the yard indefinitely. Dom will be playing in the Troy Boosters League this summer- he can't wait for that. He's making the big step from "parks & rec" to little league. A step he has been ready to take for a while.
Dave is fun to watch as well. He reverts back to his younger days and everything becomes “all about the Tigers.” Where we go on vacation & when depends on whether there is a MLB team there and if the Tigers play against them (so we can catch a game), our activities are planned around their game schedule and every game is Tivo-ed. (As I type this – he really sounds like a fanatic, which he is – but in a good way.) I love his passion for baseball, and the way it is shared with all of our family is quite unique and really cool. It’s a lot of fun having a team to root for together – especially when they’re winning.
I’m ready for Opening Day. There is just something about baseball. I remember as a kid, my dad would always have WJR tuned to a game as we drove in our station wagon - coming home from visiting cousins or the cottage up north. I have vivid memories of 1984 (I was a sophomore in high school) and "Bless You Boys!" -- we watched many games that summer in our living room with the fan in the window and neighbors over from nearby.
With the cloud-covered sky above and the snow-covered ground below, the thought of those summer ballgames makes me smile. Going to Comerica Park has become a Haight tradition and with spring right around the corner – it can be carried on again this year.
Go Tigers!
