Entry for August 7, 2006 Monday

(Go Tigers!)
Good morning. Yesterday was a good day. I woke without stiffness or chest pain for the first time. I took my Motrin anyways....just in case. Last night I even moved from the recliner to my bed. And again this morning, I was pain-free. A big breakthrough in my recovery - wahoo. Actually, this weekend I must have reached a new plateau altogether. Dave, the kids and I went to Sterlingfest (Sterling Height's City festival) on Saturday evening. My first "social outing". Bringing our blankets (& a lawn chair for me - can't sit on the ground very comfortably yet...), we went to the free outdoor concert. We saw John Waite (yes....from the 80's) and it was so nice to be out. The kids ran around and Dave picked up some Cold Stone from a local vendor. Sunday was another good day. I awoke (painless as I already mentioned) and showered. The kids all got up and we were able to make it to church for 8:30a. This week I was able to stay in my pew the whole hour, and it felt so good to participate and be more emotionally "together". We spent the rest of the day at home, just hanging around. Today is my first day on my own. The kids are all home today, and my mom is staying at home with my Dad. My dad continues to struggle with his stomach. He has days when he just feels miserable. I have always thought his surviving stomach cancer was the great feat - but now I think living with 1/3 stomach (& little/no stomach acid to digest foods) is the greater feat. It is very difficult for him to know what to eat, so many food items don't digest in his stomach and that causes great discomfort. They have tried many different approaches to his problem, but just haven't found one that works 100%. Well, I'd better find the kids (they are upstairs playing....or fighting - not sure yet) and feed them breakfast. I hope your day is wonderful, and that you laugh and smile often. God bless, Michelle
