 He wounded in legs during Civil War.  He always kept them wrapped up. 
He was captured at Bakers Creek,Mississippi on May 16,1863. He was paroled at Fort Delaware, Delaware on July 3,1863. He was processed at City Point,Virginia on July 6,1863.

Notes for JOSEPH EMMITTE GoLDEN:
Joined the Army in January 1938. When he tried to join he was not heavy enough at 118 pounds to join. The old recruiter told him that he was going to put down 120 pounds and that he better weigh 120 pounds when he got to Montgomery, Alabama. He told him to buy several pounds of bananas and to eat them all on the way to Montgomery. When he arrived and weighed in he weighed 121 pounds. He served at Fort Benning, Georgia, Camp McKalI, North Carolina, and others in the Carolinas. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and married Maxine while serving. They came out of the Army due to the special circumstances. They came back to Gold Ridge and farmed like most did and in 1947 bought a Cotton Gin, Store, and Grist Mill .
