DID YOU KNOW????
The British government announced a reduction in the penalties for
marijuana today, making marijuana possession a non-arrestable offense
nationwide. The downgrade -- making marijuana a Class C rather than a
Class B drug -- puts it in the same category as anabolic steroids and
growth hormones. A Reuters wire service article can be found at

This provides a huge, huge boost for marijuana policy reform in the
United States. For the past month, MPP has been in touch with
sympathetic congressional offices about the idea of introducing a bill
in Congress that would replicate the British policy change in the U.S.

The British policy change has been in the works for months, and MPP
had a few days' notice -- enough time to schedule a conference-call
news conference today with reporters and British government officials.
For MPP's news release, see

CNN's "Crossfire" debates this issue, with DEA
Administrator Asa Hutchinson as the only guest. (A CNN staffer tells
us that both CNN hosts are in favor of reform, so the debate will be
2-1 in our favor.)
