Joe is sired by the beautiful and impressive elite stallion Gold Luck. Gold Luck's sire, the legendary Grand Prix dressage stallion Grundstein, was named the top dressage producing stallion in the world by the World Breeding Federation for Sporthorses (WBFSH) in 1999. Joe's dam, Rhiviera, has a truly impeccable pedigree. She is sired by Regazzoni, the 1994 winner of the stallion testing in Munster Handorf out of 54 stallions. He received two perfect scores of 10 for temperament and ridability and finished with an impressive total index of 140.53 and a dressage (riding) index of 152.16. Rhiviera's pedigree also contains such legendary stallions as Rubinstein, Davignon, Donnerhall, and Matcho X.

On May 11, 2002, Joe competed at the Derbyshire Farms Dressage Classic which is part of the 2002 Cosequin USDF Breeder's Championship Series. As one can only expect from a colt of this caliber, Joe WON his yearling class and went on to the championships where he was again a big winner and earned a championship qualifying position to attend the USDFBC Series Finals in August of this year. Joe demonstrated the gaits, temperament, and presence that are the standards by which truly great sporthorses are judged. Judge Arlene Rigdon (USDF (S) Judge, and DSHB (R) Judge) commented on the strength of Joe's gait's, focusing on his exceptional suspension and ground coverage. She also commented on his "clean and correctly built legs".
American Hanoverian Society inspector Lou Thompson, during Joe's inspection on July 30, 2001, commented that Joe is "Another fine type. Good conformation, very clean legs, and also a very strong mover. A real powerhouse mover from behind". Although Joe's trot is breathtaking, his strongest gait is undoubtedly his canter. He demonstrates remarkable balance and reaches way up underneath himself with his hind end. Joe's breeder can be quoted as saying "Joe has one of the best canter's I have ever bred".
Joe is truly an exceptional colt. Despite the fact that he is an impeccably bred performance horse, Joe demonstates a temperament and kind disposition that make him a joy to be around. He is kind, intelligent, and obedient, and learns very quickly. I am an adult amateur owner/rider/handler and was able to clip, wash, and braid Joe in preparation for his first show entirely by myself, without ANY assistance. He ties and trailers like a true gentleman. He walks onto the trailer without hesitation and unloads calmly and quietly. To find this type of temperament and disposition in a horse with Joe's remarkable performance sporthorse pedigree and extaordinary talent is quite rare. He has a kind and expressive eye and incredible presence which certainly get him noticed where ever he goes.
