A Typical Sunday in Madrid
Every Sunday I was in Madrid I always tried to go to el Rastro flea market.  I'd get up early and take the metro to la Latina neighborhood and start the search.  The market stretches up and down the streets and there are wall to wall crowds of people around noon.  This was super exciting- so many people you have to push yourself through.  Anything you want you can find at the Rastro - pet cages, saddles, sleeping bags, smocks, fans, touristy things, clothes.... it was tons of fun.
Then Joanne and I would make sure to get back home by 2 -2:30ish for lunch with the senora.  Every Sunday she cooked a wonderful paella.

Here I am with the senora. She is now 92 years old, but has lots of energy and is really healthy!  She walks to the grocery store every few days, cooks all the meals, soes, and cares for 20-something year old "ninas" from all different study abroad programs throughout the entire year!  She has a lot of stories to tell and is loved by many.
This is a close up of the paella.  Paella is a traditional Spanish rice dish and includes all different "mariscos" (sea- critters) like shrimp, oysters, calamari, crayfish, and clams.  There is also chicken, red peppers, peas, and the Spanish spice, saffron.
