| After
dragging on for months we finally had the immigration visas in our
hands in March 2001. Because our medicals were to expire on June 8
2001 we made haste to settle our lives, pack our belongings and move
to a foreign land - our new home. We tried to see as much of SA in
the short time we had left and we managed to visit PE, Knysna, Wilderness,
Oudtshoorn, Durban, Umhlanga, Lost City and the Vaal in those few
months. Our companies were kind enough to let us take leave during
our last month of employment.
On
29 May 2001, we left Johannesburg, South Africa amid tears and sadness,
but also excitement as we headed for London. Brent and Leonie were
great hosts for a few days and it seemed as if we were on vacation
and real life pressures had been suspended.
On
2 June we were on our way to Vancouver and arrived early evening
the same day. Surprisingly the Canadian immigration offices were
quiet and we quickly received our landing papers, located our luggage
and stepped out into the fresh Vancouver air as landed immigrants...
