Subject: two bad, bad races new england crit: all day in the sun. nearly caused a crash, then race was stopped because natl guardsmen who were digging a soccer field discovered a 50-gallon drum full of something. EPA was called, race resumed 45 minutes later, i felt bad for almost taking out some BAM girls and sat in the back. the BAM team kept on sending off attacks (they were 5 out of 11 in the field) but wouldn't block so they finished 4th with their best rider. i was 6th. american cup: 5 inches of rain. soaked through. they couldn't make a starting line stick to the ground so everyone kept on edging up. i was tentative through the first corner because it was so wet so i was off the back before we even really got started. i stayed out there for 20 minutes, then called it a night. i was pretty disappointed. there were 5 girls in the field that i'd beaten before. i felt like i should bave been up there. oh well. i did have a moment there afterwards where i wallowed in that horrible feeling of being cold and wet and alone and having just dropped out of a bike race i should have done better in. there's a mistake in the results; i finished 16th, not 11th. at least i was ahead of 9 people. i really hope i can do better on saturday. this time i'll get a good warm-up and hopefully my legs won't hurt so much. then my night got WAY WAY better. i missed my ride back to boston so i hung out with my friend neilie, who's working as a soigneur with
