again, the lesson: position, position, position. got rattled by the tight start, stuck behind a girl with a mechanical (i think), again at the back of the pack. the field of 35 exploded and after a few laps alone, i got into the fourth group with 4 other girls. first group was a four-up breakaway with sara uhl, then a bunch of 1 and 2s and 3s, then a bunch of 3s. my group eventually caught up to the third group (erin farnsworth took a long pull and then i came around--yeah, i'm a bitch). almost immediately after we caught on, dick ring started saying we were going to get pulled because the breakaway was about to catch us. we went for a few more laps, we got pulled, and i won the sprint. so i got 12th. someone later gave me some grief (jokingly) for not pulling, but i told her i wasn't in the pack until the end, and that for some reason we never got a rotating paceline going... again, the annoying thing is that i felt i could have been farther up. this time there were 3 girls up front i'd beaten before. i felt like i was going to puke, but i could have felt like that closer to the front. i felt great through all the corners, got a good hour-long warm-up. just need to improve my start. it was my home course too. =( the exciting part was that practically everyone i know was at the race, cheering me on. my friend eric johnson said, "no wonder you want to stay in boston."
