listen to the music in your head....
Umpteen songs produced by one band. The most dedicated of all fans will know all the words to every single one in a very unhealhy fashion, but just which ones are the best? it's debatable, but do i look like i can be arsed debating? i think not.
the key songs.....
the personal favourites....
be my god- the first single. it never graced the shelves, due to label mix-ups. crowds begin building in small venues around london...

the drowners- the real first single. went to number 49, which is pretty outstanding for a band on such a small label. contains best use of the word "over" you could ever hear.

my insatiable one- arguably the campest song they've ever done. fantastic imagery and shameless bisexuality reminiscant of smiths songs such as reel around the fountain and handsome devil. Introduced in the "introducing the band" video...."here's a song...here's a song about gayanimalsex."

animal nitrate
- the old suede song everyone knows. video got banned due to showing two men kissing. still looked camp. caused first album to sell like hot cakes.

stay together
- the first big hit, going to number three. unfortunately not a profecy as bernard butler jumped ship soon afterwards.

together
- the first song new guitarist richard oakes wrote with the band. it was written during the torturous ritual of seeing whether he was good enough for them, in which they locked him in a room and went down the pub, expecting him to have written something by the time they returned.

trash
- the comeback single. went to number three, probably their biggest hit. saw the entry of the two new members and pop music resembling T-rex's "the slider"....

she's in fashion
- the bizarre sight of suede going all sinth on us. luvverly. probably the key track from head music.
to the birds- fabulous epic, drowners b-side. used to finish off shows with it around 92/93, under the command of hungry audiences who, if given the chance, probably would have eaten brett's arms.

be my god- definition of the word brilliant. sounding a little like a mixture of the fall, the smiths and u2, this song kicks in with one of the best intros i've ever heard, and begins with the line "this, this is the age of the high-heeled protege". genius. a real shame that it was never brought out but, do you know what? the public don't deserve it. sorry.

metal mickey- we shake, shake, shake to the trumpet.....and smack yourself on the arse, and nearly knock yourself out with a microphone when swinging it around your head...(personal note to self: don't listen to the first album when pissed).

new generation- "and this song is dedicated...to all of you".

by the sea- completely different to anything else they've ever done. the complete opposite of anythng they've ever suggested. ever. apparantly signifies the direction of the new material, a fact which, as you can imagine, makes me grin like a derranged hyena.

stay together- the FULL VERSION, mind! the eight minute epic....anyone who can work out what all that mumbling is is welcome to tell me. slightly terrifying.

this hollywood life- do i need a reason? i think not.defining track from dog man star? i think so.

let go/ since you went away- suede's two-song 'saturday afternoon' era. light, breezy, whistling! brilliant.

he's dead- again, no reason needed. a tune with a life of it's own, with nothing to declare but its own genius. well, AND its promiscuity. "with all the love and poison of london".

high rising- alright alright enough of the early bsides already! funereal, hard-hitting operatic gem. you should HEAR it live....
