The Sound Of Loneliness Turned Up To Ten...........
My ten favourite albums, ever, in no particular order....

suede- dog man star (1994)
It's obvious isn't it really? A big gothic mess of a thing that actually transports you into the slum it sounds like it's from. Minimal but orchestral at the same time, somehow. Not cool to like either which makes it all the better i suppose...
Favourite track: Hard as it is to pick, probably New Generation.
Best Lyric:

soundgarden- superunknown (1994)
call my list 1994-orientated if you will. Scott would openly argue with me that Badmotorfinger shits all over this album but frankly I find that it's their perfect balance between heavy and delicate, which i believe is what a great album should be. And believe me, this IS a fucking great album. Exceptional. Listening to it's like eating a perfect three-course meal, with maybe only 4th of July as the breadsticks you don't eat...
Favourite track: Changes all the time but currently The Day I Tried To Live
Best Lyric:

hole- live through this (1994)
if i were given the task of defining this album in one word it would be "ouch". love or hate our courtney you can't deny this album's a stunner. If you like Nirvana you cannot say this is a bad album, chuck, because it kicks nevermind's ass into oblivion. Thankyou very much.
Favourite Track: Doll Parts
Best Lyric: "Geeks do not have pedigrees or perfect punk-rock resumees or annorexic magazines..."

down- a bustle in your hedgerow (2002)
just because I can. Call it sacreligious if you will but i'd be tempted to say Pantera will never be as good as down. For my full (and rather too enthusiastic- what can i say i was in a good mood when i wrote it) review of this album click
here.
Favourite track- Where I'm Going
Best Lyric:

manic street preachers- the holy bible (1994)
Ever wondered what bleakness sounds like?
Favourite track- This Is Yesterday
Best Lyric: "Loser, liar, fake and phoney, no-one cares. Everyone is guilty."

tool- aenima (1996)
like dog man star, in my eyes, but more extreme. Sleepless, writhing and reluctantly American, Aenima's a joy to listen to once you get into it. Listening to certain tracks does actually give you the same feeling as wrapping yourself in a blanket. Of thorns, occasionally.
Favourite track- Pushit
Best Lyric:

the smiths- meat is murder (1985)
I was really quite pushed to identify my favourite smiths album and while i could have gone for the cool option (the queen is dead- also class) i chose this one purely for the volume of great songs.
Favourite track- What She Said
Best Lyric: "What she said, how come someone hasn't noticed that I'm dead and tried to bury me? Well god knows, I'm ready. What she said was sad, but then, all the rejection she's had, to pretend to be happy would only be idiocy..."

metallica- master of puppets (1985)
surprised? good. so you should be.
Favourite Track- Sanitarium
Best Lyric:

the eighties matchbox b-line disaster- horse of the dog (2002)

pulp- this is harcore (1997)
