The Michigan Carvers and Collectors Association

  Our Club Story

The Michigan Carvers and Collectors Association (MCCA) was founded in 1986 as a Downriver non-profit organization. It's purpose is to gather together persons interested in wildlife art forms, with special emphasis given to the carving and collecting of wildlife pieces. Although wildlife continues to dominate club activities, many members have expanded their horizons to include many other carving forms and subjects, still working principally with wood.

Currently there are more than 65 active members, both men and women ~ young and old, who support the club with obvious enthusiasm. Informal get-togethers are held weekly for hands-on-carving workshops and discussions. In this way, beginning carvers are aided by the expertise of experienced carvers, resulting in good fellowship for all.

A reference resource library consisting of books, magazines and video instructional tapes is maintained to assist members to enhance their carving knowledge and skills. Periodic educational programs and seminars are also provided.
MCCA sponsors and participates in exhibitions and demonstrations to educate the public about the various carving art forms and cooperates with local Nature Centers and civic organizations for that purpose. We are affiliated with Michigan United Conservation Clubs and are a member of the Michigan Wood Carvers Association
.
