Story

According to his mother, Kalan could hum parts of Brahm's lullaby when he was only 18 months old.  Since then, he hasn't stopped singing.  He took classical voice lessons from 10 to 14 and at 16, he began singing in his family rock band.  In that band, he also plays guitar, bass and piano.  Kalan can also play the violin and viola, which he has studied since he was 8.  He continues to perform solo, in a quartet, and in an orchestra, as well as teach 6 students to play the violin. 

Kalan grew up working in in fifth generation family buffalo/cattle ranch, where he fed, weaned, corralled, and branded livestock.  He recently completed his first year in the Commerce program at the Medicine Hat College. 

Kalan likes eating steak and sushi, the Medicine Hat Tigers and Late Night with Conan O'Brien.  He likes to snowboard, wakeboard, play volleyball, run, and "could not live" without his car.  Kalan enjoys trying new things and hasskydived, white water rafted andscuba dived.

Kalan says his Canadian Idol is "People like Rick Hansen who have overcome adversity to achieve something thatmakes a difference in the lives of Canadians.
