Laurel Lake Bathhouse and Water Line Construction - November 8, 2008
Photos by Doris Fitting

Even though this was a Saturday, men were working on the new facility building.

Drilling under the creek near the boat rental to run water line to new facilities building. This line will run to Ice House Road, under Mountain Creek at the footbridge, up Old Railroad Bed Road to the water tank near Fuller. The drill bit will go through small rocks. This process today takes about 45 minutes to an hour. It will be 4'-5' deep, well below freeze line.

Lower right photo: This piece of equipment at the end of the drill has sensors so direction and depth can be controlled by the drill operator. It costs about $10,000. The drill bit and pipes are kept cooled with a constant water supply.

After the hole is drilled under creek to the other side, a larger auger is connected to enlarge the hole and at the same time pull this piping back through. The hole is kept filled with water to keep the ground soft and easily allow the PVC to slide through.

4" PVC lines ready to be installed along Ice House Road after going under Mt. Creek. These lines will bring the water from the water tank near Fuller area.

October 28, 2008 Update
Photos of Railroad Bed Road construction, Fuller Lake's new buildings, and construction at Laurel Lake
photos and story by Doris Fitting on October 27, 2008

Workman lay the new water pipe from the water tank near Fuller along Old Railroad Bed Road toward Laurel Lake Beach.

The pipes will be about 4 feet deep under the roadway, crossing at the walking bridge near the spring proceeding along Icehouse Rd. to Laurel Lake.

They hope to reach the bridge
within the next two weeks.

Backfill is done immediately
after new pipe is laid.

A front view. The building is very attractive, natural looking. In the winter months only the center lavatory facilities will remain open. There are heated floors under the tiles.

Smaller building near the Brickyard
Pavillion near Fuller Beach is
also handicapped accessable.

One footbridge was replaced above Fuller Lake.

Down at Laurel Beach area - some new
paved parking and walks are installed.

Old toilet facilities, men's and women's have
been torn down. Only the center part of
original concession still remains.

The last newer concession stand
has been dismantled also.

New handicapped access ramp to
beach and lake at Laurel Beach.

Large piles of new sand await the regrading planned for the beach and swimming area.
