Martin Luther King
Another leader in the fight for Civil Rights was Martin Luther King Jr. He was born on January 15th, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. Martin went to school and grew up in Atlanta. He was so smart he skipped both 9th and 12th grades. He entered college when he was only 15. After about 3 years at Morehouse College he went to Boston University. He met and married Correta Scott. He became a Pastor and Minister at a church in Montgomery, Alabama.
In 1955 he started a bus boycott in Montgomery. He made several speeches about segregation. Because of his boycott Montgomery had to let blacks sit wherever they wanted on a bus. King protested in non-violent speeches. His most famous speech was the "I Have A Dream" speech at the Lincoln Memorial. Over 200,000 people came to hear the speech. While organizing one of his non-violent campaigns he was shot and killed in Memphis. Because of his actions, congress put an end to segregation in the south .
