From time to time I review science books for a magazine called Chemistry & Industry. The latest issue has my review of this book:
The Nanotech Pioneers:
Where are they taking us?
Steven A. Edwards
Wiley-VCH, Weinheim, 2006
ISBN 3-527-31290-0
A snippet from my review:
In my view, the most interesting chapter is the one on "grandiose challenges." Arguing that the field needs a focal point or three, the author picks three challenges that migh help to drive technology forwards, as the grand challenge of putting a man on the moon did in its time. His grandiose nanotech challenges are: Independence from fossil fuels, a space elevator, and a quantum computer of useful size. For each of these, Edwards outlines the state of the art, the most likely ways forward, and a timeframe by which he expects the challenges to be met.
