In praise of tandems

A bit over a year ago, I bought a tandem so we can transport my son (who has autism and can't be trusted with traffic rules) to school and back. Since then I've noticed that many other families have done the same. Nowadays I see around one other tandem on the road per day. It's probably both to do with the place and the time. The time because tandems have become a lot more affordable in recent years, you can now get a new one for twice the price of a normal bike. And the place because around Oxford there are so many people who have cycled for many years, so they are more likely to stick with it even if their transport requirements grow more complicated.

Oh and maybe it's just that the word is spreading how much fun this is. You get twice the power with the same air resistance, so you can easily go quite fast ...

This isn't ours, just a random one I found on the web, and I liked the colour scheme ...
