so you're a rocket scientist ?
writing a hit is not exactly rocket science, but some scientists have found hidden structures that may play a role in this seemingly unpredictable business. apparently, if you plot these parameters, over 80 percent of all major hits cluster in certain areas of parameter space, but each of the clusters includes strange juxtapositions of musical pieces that nobody would have called similar. i don't agree with all the conclusions expressed here, but still think it's intriguing stuff:
