Phonology (Includes linguistic terms)

Meldarian has the plosives t, p, and k, the fricatives v, s, and x (the ch in loch) as well as the "lh" sound. This sounds like a blown through L and is present in Welsh (ll). It has the nasals n, m, and ng (always the sound in siNG), plus a glottal stop (the sound in Scottish boTTle, or the dash in Uh-oh), a click represented by the ^ character, and a "y" sound (as in yipe) represented by a J. The vowels are A (as in fAther), ii (ee as in bEEt), and uu (as in sOOn).

Addendum: Source Key

Script - Word used in the Landing I script.
Glossary - Word seen in the old Meldarian glossary used to translate the first alien phrases, but not shown in the script.
Prop Label - Word used to label the "Translation Device" prop.
Expanded Dictionary - Word later added to the dictionary for meaningful usage, but not seen in the script.
Expanded Dictionary/Script - Expanded Dictionary entry that was later used in the script.
...d# - Word appearing only in numbered script draft.
...d# rev - Word appearing only in revision of numbered script draft.
TL2 - Word invented for "The Landing 2" script. (Also TL3, TL4)
(...Blue, ...Yellow, ...Green... - Script Revision colours.)

Addendum: Base 6 Numbering System

Since the Meldarians only have 6 fingers (3 on each hand), they count from 1 to 6 instead of 1 to 10. Numbers six or greater are formed by putting the particle "kii" before the number of sixes, then the number of ones. Example:

six - kii-tsiin (one six) '10'
nine - kii-tsiin-sapu (one six with three) '13'
twelve - kii-txa (two sixes) '20'
fourteen - kii-txa-txa (two sixes with two) '22'
36 - kii-kii-tsiin (six sixes) '100'
