Park Butte Lookout
On the weekend of the 10th I was unable to do an overnight hike because I had the honor of shooting the wedding of my friends' Andrew and Shelly on Saturday the 9th.  This meant it was a great opportunity for me to re-acquaint myself with the Baker Lake region of the North Cascades.  Thus, Helten and I decided to head up to the Park Butte Lookout to check out its great views of Mt Baker.  The hike started out flat and easy with numerous flowers decorating the trail edges. This was followed by a mile of relatively easy switchbacks which ended up in a high alpine meadow where the trail split left to the lookout and right to the old train grade.  Helten and I choose to head up to the lookout first where I was able to venture out to the exposed ridge it was situated on.  The best views from here were west to colorful peaks and directly north to the crag glaciers.

We ended up staying at the lookout for about an hour prior to heading back down to the trail junction  and then right up the old railroad grade (aka, the lateral morraine).  The terminus of the glacier looked like a
diving bat and would have made a nice location to shoot a scene in the new Batman Begins movie (which I would highly suggest as a must see movie - definitely two thumbs up).  This is the point where luck set in and the clouds cleared to open up views to Mt Baker and its surrounding glaciers and crags.
