. . . healing quotes

. . . be thoroughly persuaded in your own mind concerning the truth which you think or speak, and you will be the victor. (S&H 412: 7-9)

If Spirit or the power of divine Love bear witness to the truth, this is the ultimatum, the scientific way, and the healing is instantaneous. (S&H 411:10-12)

Eloquent silence
You may call the disease by name when you mentally deny it; but by naming it audibly, you are liable under some circumstances to impress it upon the thought. The power of Christian Science and divine Love is omnipotent. It is indeed adequate to unclasp the hold and to destroy disease, sin, and death. (S&H 412:11-15)

Argue at first mentally, not audibly, that the patient has no disease, and conform the argument so as to destroy the evidence of disease. Mentally insist that harmony is the fact, and that sickness is a temporal dream. Realize the presence of health and the fact of harmonious being, until the body corresponds with the normal conditions of health and harmony. (S&H 412:20-27)

The act of yielding one's thoughts to the undue contemplation of physical wants or conditions induces those very conditions (S&H 413:3-5

The sick know nothing of the mental process by which they are depleted, and next to nothing of the metaphysical method by which they can be healed. If they ask about their disease, tell them only what is best for them to know. Assure them that they think too much about their ailments, and have already heard too much on that subject. Turn their thoughts away from their bodies to higher objects. Teach them that their being is sustained by Spirit, not by matter, and that they find health, peace, and harmony in God, divine Love. (S&H 416:24-417:2)

it is demonstrable that the way to cure the patient is to make disease unreal to him. To do this, the physician must understand the unreality of disease in Science. (S&H 417:23-26)

Explain audibly to your patients, as soon as they can bear it, the complete control which Mind holds over the body. Show them how mortal mind seems to induce disease by certain fears and false conclusions, and how divine Mind can cure by opposite thoughts. Give your patients an underlying understanding to support them and to shield them from the baneful effects of their own conclusions. Show them that the conquest over sickness, as well as over sin, depends on mentally destroying all belief in material pleasure or pain. (S&H 417:27-418:4

Mind produces all action. If the action proceeds from Truth, from immortal Mind, there is harmony; but mortal mind is liable to any phase of belief. (S&H 419:20-22)

Turn his gaze from the false evidence of the senses to the harmonious facts of Soul and immortal being. Tell him that he suffers only as the insane suffer, from false beliefs. The only difference is, that insanity implies belief in a diseased brain, while physical ailments (so-called) arise from the belief that other portions of the body are deranged. Derangement, or disarrangement, is a word which conveys the true definition of all human belief in ill-health, or disturbed harmony.
You must treat the patient less for the disease and more for the mental disturbance or fermentation, and subdue the symptoms by removing the belief that this chemicalization produces pain or disease. Insist vehemently on the great fact which covers the whole ground. that God, Spirit, is all, and that there is none beside Him.
There is no disease.
When the supposed suffering is gone from mortal mind, there can be no pain; and
when the fear is destroyed, the inflammation will subside. (S&H 420:30- 421:21)

It is no more Christianly scientific to see disease than it is to experience it.
S&H 421:25-26)

The sick are not healed merely by declaring there is no sickness, but by knowing that
there is none. (S&H 447:27-29)

If the body is material, it cannot, for that very reason, suffer with a fever. Because the so-called material body is a mental concept and governed by mortal mind, it manifests only what that so-called mind expresses. Therefore the efficient remedy is to destroy the patient's false belief by both silently and audibly arguing the true facts in regard to harmonious being, - representing man as healthy instead of diseased, and showing that it is impossible for matter to suffer, to
feel pain or heat, to be thirsty or sick. Destroy fear, and you end fever. Some people, mistaught as to Mind-science, inquire when it will be safe to check a fever.
Know that in Science you cannot check a fever after admitting that it must have its course. To fear and admit the power of disease, is to paralyze mental and scientific demonstration. (S&H 376:19-26-27,29-32)

The cause of all so-called disease is mental, a mortal fear, a mistaken belief or conviction of the necessity and power of ill-health; also a fear that Mind is helpless to defend the life of man and incompetent to control it. Without this ignorant human belief, any circumstance is of it self powerless to produce suffering. It is latent belief in disease, as well as the fear of disease, which associates sickness with certain circumstances and causes the two to appear conjoined, even as poetry and music are reproduced in union by human memory. Disease has no intelligence. Unwittingly you sentence yourself to suffer. S&H 377:26-378:4)

It is mental quackery to make disease a reality - to hold it as something seen and felt - and then to attempt its cure through Mind. It is no less erroneous to believe in the real existence of a tumor, a cancer, or decayed lungs, while you argue against their reality, than it is for your patient to feel these ills in physical belief. Mental practice, which holds disease as a reality, fastens disease on the patient, and it may appear in a more alarming form. (S&H 395:21-29)

we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God's unerring direction and thus bring out harmony. (S&H 424:6-9)

God is more to a man than his belief, and the less we acknowledge matter or its laws, the more immortality we possess. Consciousness constructs a better body when faith in matter has been conquered. Correct material belief by spiritual understanding, and Spirit will form you anew.
(S&H 426:21-26)

For right reasoning there should be but one fact before the thought, namely, spiritual existence. In reality there is no other existence, since Life cannot be united to its unlikeness, mortality. (S&H 492:3-6)

God is Mind, and God is infinite; hence all is Mind. On this statement rests the
Science of being, and the Principle of this Science is divine, demonstrating harmony and immortality. S&H 492:25-28)
If we pray to God as a corporeal person, this will prevent us from relinquishing the human doubts and fears which attend such a belief, and so we cannot grasp the wonders wrought by infinite, incorporeal Love, to whom all things are possible.
Because of human ignorance of the divine Principle, Love, the Father of all is represented as a corporeal creator; hence men recognize themselves as merely physical, and are ignorant of man as God's image or reflection and of man's eternal incorporeal existence.
(S&H 13:20-20)

In order to pray aright, we must enter into the closet and shut the door. We must close the lips and silence the material senses. In the quiet sanctuary of earnest longings, we must deny sin and plead God's allness. (S&H 15:14-18)

"It is Truth's knowledge of its own infinitude which forbids the genuine existence of even a claim to error.
This knowledge is light wherein there is no darkness, - not light holding darkness within itself.
The consciousness of light is like the eternal law of God, revealing Him and nothing else.

Sympathy with sin, sorrow, and sickness would dethrone God as Truth, for Truth has no sympathy for error. In Science, the cure of the sick demonstrates this grand verity of Christian Science, that you cannot eradicate disease if you admit that God sends it or sees it."(No & Yes 30:18-31:2)

Always begin your treatment by allaying the fear of patients. Silently reassure them as to their exemption from disease and danger. (S&H 411:28-29)

Quest. Must a patient have faith in Christian Science in order to be healed by it?
Most of the remarkable cases cured by Christian Scientists have been people having no faith at first in the Science, and who tried it as a "last resort," or because their friends wished them to.

Quest. Can all diseases be cured by your method?
Nothing is impossible to God, and Christian Science reveals His possibilities. All bodily ills are beliefs of mind made manifest on the body - errors of thought brought to the surface. And error, in all directions, - ignorance or sin, is not so formidable but truth in divine science can destroy it.

Quest. Is it wrong to pray for the recovery of the sick?
Not if we pray scripturally, with the understanding that God has given all things to those who love him; but pleading with infinite Love to love us, or to restore health and harmony that we admit lost in his government, is the prayer of doubt and belief that is unavailing in Science.
(MW 59:11-17)

Quest. Is not all argument mind over mind ?
The Scripture refers to God as saying, "Come, let us reason together." There is but one right Mind, and that one should and does govern man; any co-partnership with that Mind is impossible, and the only benefit of speaking often one to another, arises from the success that one individual has with another in leading his thoughts away from the human mind or body, and guiding them with Truth. That individual is the best healer who asserts himself the least, and thus becomes a transparency for the divine Mind, who is the only physician; the divine
Mind is the scientific healer." (MW 59:18-29)

Quest. How can you believe there is no sin, and that God does not recognize any, when He sent His Son to save from sin, and the Bible is addressed to sinners? How can you believe there is no sickness when Jesus came healing the sick?

Because, to regard them both with less deference and only as the great unrealities of being, is the only way to destroy them, as Christian Science is proving by healing cases of disease and sin when all other means have failed. Jesus could make them both unreal in a moment.
(MW 60:1-11))

Truth is ever truthful, and can tolerate no error in premise or conclusion. (S&H 129-6)
This error in the premise leads to errors in the conclusion in every statement into which it enters. (S&H 277:28)

An error in premise can never bring forth the real fruits of Truth. (MW 265:19)

If the premise of mortal existence is wrong, any conclusion drawn there from is not absolutely right. (MW 288:12)

Mere historic incidents and personal events are frivolous and of no moment, unless they illustrate the ethics of Truth. To this end, but only to this end, such narrations may be admissible and advisable; but if spiritual conclusions are separated from their premises, the nexus is lost, and the argument, with its rightful conclusions, becomes correspondingly obscure. The human history needs to be revised, and the material record expunged. (Retro 21:25)

In logic the major premise must be convertible to the minor. (Message '01)

What can there be besides infinity? Nothing! (MW 27:1)

Testimonies from early C. S. Journals:"The most eloquent proof of the inherent vitality of Christianity is that it has survived nineteen centuries of its teachers. The unanswerable proof of the indestructibility of the human mind is that it still lives despite all the efforts of modern education. And now - they have introduced Drink into the public schools. Does legislation think a mild inoculation of intemperance will guarantee future immunity? If such instruction be good, why does legislation stop here? Why does it not run through the whole catalogue of human sin, misery, and folly? Why does it not prepare a primary education of Murder as a Fine Art, by De Quincey? Why not have daily clinics, with Confessions of an Opium-eater as a quiz-book?
The revealing's of the latest science show the marvelous power of suggestion, the stimulation of a thought sinking into mind - mind, that in the exquisite accuracy of psychic processes never loses, never forgets. Constantly telling a child not to lie is giving life and intensity to 'the lie.' The mere negative does not amount to much, it is like a tag on a trunk - it may be lost but the trunk remains.
Drill exercises in the intoxicating effects of various mixed drinks (here the child should name all the drinks in alphabetic order, giving recipe for each) will never make a pupil temperate. The tendency will be to make him pursue the fascinating scientific method of following investigation by experiment. The individual ever flatters himself that he is clever enough to sip the sweet and avoid the bitter in all evil, and familiarity with evil tends to strengthen this, not to weaken it. Fill the mind of the child with the beauty of temperance, not the horrors of intemperance; show him ever that the only way to highest good is through sobriety. Constantly suggest this to the pupil in comments on the lives of the world's great men, their influence and example. Moral common sense shows the falseness of the theory of teaching evil as guideposts on the road to virtue. Agitating stagnant ponds does not purify them; it merely sets the filth in circulation. Subjecting our physical body to contaminating disease is not an aid to health, and this is equally true of the mind. No one ever learned morality by studying sin.

So far as I was concerned God was a vague hypothetical abstraction. I was very positive on this point, and the gentleman, seeing I was so well-informed and had nothing to learn, did not argue with me; on the contrary, he let me talk myself out, and after I had pretty well exhausted my catalogue of ills and woes, my Christian Science friend calmly informed me that God, divine Love, would destroy them all if I were willing. This of course was arrant nonsense to me. I had been willing for years, and God, if He could have cured me, would have done so. As for divine Love, I saw very little evidence of its existence.
With a marvelous exhibition of patience, the practitioner gently explained that God did not create evil, and has no consciousness of evil, for God is Love, Life, and Truth, infinite Mind, and that the recognition of this infinite Mind would destroy the false mental pictures that were manifesting themselves on my body, destroying my peace and happiness, and thus creating all my apparent woes. The word "apparent" annoyed me. Why apparent? Was I not to believe the testimony of my own senses? To my utter astonishment he replied, "No." I asked him to explain, and he showed me a book, the title of which was "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker G. Eddy. I looked it over and thought it was a sort of ethical culture handbook. I said I would investigate it, and I did!
I was a man of the world, a member of several clubs, social and literary organizations, and numbered among my friends many of the most prominent physicians, lawyers, and artists. I was a confirmed materialist, and yet I make the following statement, fully realizing the difficulty of its being understood by those who do not understand Christian Science. Indeed I myself would not, and could not, in the light of my worldly training, have believed in such a contradiction of accepted theories and material laws before I studied Christian Science. All the same, it is true that from the time I received these treatments, from the time I opened and read that book, I gradually, indeed almost immediately, recovered my health, my peace of mind, professional and financial success, and happiness far beyond my wildest dream, and I have never taken a drug nor consulted a physician since that hour.
