Excerpts from Dr. de Lange

You will find your work improving vastly when reminding yourself before, during, and after the treatment that the efficacy of the treatment has nothing to do with what you humanly appear to know. The activity of the treatment IS Principle, Love, in majestic Self-fulfillment, in instant Self-completeness, in perfect Self-knowledge.

Treatment, in Christian Science, is definitely not human accomplishment; it is Divine acknowledgment. It IS the acknowledgment OF That which already exists, in the understanding that the existing. being Divine, IS entirely Good.

It is also the acknowledgment that the Divinely existing IS one's very own Being and Essence, here and now. This part of the acknowledgment should never be left out, because, so to speak, it clinches the treatment. Unless you insist upon this acknowledgment, the argument may prevail that while those Divine Facts are perfectly true, nevertheless they are not your or your patient's experience.

Another important point: Let the difference between helping yourself and helping others, more and more fade out. (September Journal, Kempthorne, Healing through Right Identification.") The help extended, in the treatment, is in helping a false belief to get rid of itself. The argument may claim to be "my" belief or "their" belief; but that does not make it so. Belief always remains belief, whatever disguises it may assume. It is always impersonal, without mind or self. The belief parades as believer, and not the other way around. see Science and Health 393:30-32, 218:13-14 (the human).

Results should never be defined in terms of matter and personality. "Matter" is another name for restriction or limitation; "personality" stands for division. Matter and personality are, according to human sense, very important, indispensable, substantial. But Christian Science tears off this disguise, and shows that they are only mortal modes attempting to limit and divide something existing infinitely and indivisibly. The true essentials of existence: health, happiness, freedom, love, wealth, well-being are never to be found in the restricting and dividing sense about them. All truly desirable experiences and things - "things" are really experiences - for which the world is longing and fighting, are to be found in that spiritual substance, divine Mind, which by a material and personal sense, by restriction and division, is believed objective. Full fruition never comes with objectivation. It comes with the subjective experience, or inclusion, of that which is infinite and undivided,- in other words, the Divine Idea.

Let the affirmation of your treatment invariably be made in the attitude of Truth for Truth's sake. Truth is true for Truth's sake, because it does not know any other sake. Truth knows only itself, Truth. It has no difficulty in knowing this, since Truth is true, and nothing else. Truth does not have to destroy error, or correct it, or bring something about. Nothing of the sort! To know this clearly makes Truth appear as It really is: simple, spontaneous, natural, inevitable, continuous, efficacious.

As long as you think you are a person who is spiritually minded, you are not yet spiritually minded! Personal sense, appearing either as good or bad, is the carnal mind which is "enmity against God."

As long as you habitually think that you are a person trying to be a good Christian Scientist, you are still wide open to evil influences. Your starting point is a human hypothesis, and you are subjected to what Mrs. Eddy so clearly analyzes in "Ways that are Vain." (Read Miscellany 211:20-32)
The highest form of Christliness and humility, I reiterate it, is seen in our willingness to start out from Mind, not from a person, and not even from a single idea, or a single man (out of men many ) who is objectively conscious of Mind. The only Truth there is, and that IS Christian Science, is that Mind is conscious of Itself, and this Divine Consciousness is Divine Activity, or manifestation, or man.
"Infinite Mind knows nothing beyond Himself or Herself." (Miscellaneous Writings 367: 19-20)
The Divine Idea is made up of Mind Itself, because the idea IS Mind's Divine Self-awareness. Hence "man has no Mind but God" (Science and Health 319:20).

Some counsel provided by Doctor de Lange during the Daycroft address in 1940 may be relevant here:
"For the Christian Scientist, God, or Divine Principle, is understood to be the source of all Reality or Truth. Consequently we call "unreal" and "untrue" *whatever* is not in accordance with the Divinely Good and Perfect, however real or true it may seem to be according to the material senses.
"In this manner, you can always find out what thoughts it is safe to harbor, and what thoughts have to be rejected as false suggestions. If the thought is in accordance with your highest sense of God, you may safely accept it as True and Real, as part of your Real Being; if not, you have to reject it.
The continuous application of this standard makes us real Christian Scientists. Otherwise, we cannot accept this title with all its infinite possibilities for the furtherance of universal good."
*****************
"Do you not hear from all mankind of the imperfect model? The world is holding it before your gaze continually. The result is that you are liable to follow those lower patterns, limit your life-work, and adopt into your experience the angular outline and deformity of matter models.
To remedy this, we must first turn our gaze in the right direction, and then walk that way. We must form perfect models in thought and look at them continually, or we shall never carve them out in grand and noble lives." (S&H 248-29:19-29)

"God never said that man would become better by learning to distinguish evil from good, - but the contrary, that by this knowledge, by man's first disobedience, came "death into the world, and all our woe." (Unity of Good 14-15:27-2)

"Infinite Mind knows nothing beyond Himself or Herself. To good, evil is never present; for evil is a different state of consciousness. It was not against evil, but against knowing evil, that God forewarned." (MW 367:19-23)

"Holding the right idea of man in my mind, I can improve my own, and other people's individuality, health, and morals; whereas, the opposite image of man, a sinner, kept constantly in mind, can no more improve health or morals, than holding in thought the form of a boa-constrictor can aid an artist in painting a landscape." (MW 62:1-7)

"Human concepts run in extremes; they are like the action of sickness, which is either an excess of action or not action enough; they are fallible; they are neither standards nor models.
If one asks me, Is my concept of you right? I reply, The human concept is always imperfect; relinquish your human concept of me, or of any one, and find the divine, and you have gained the right one - and never until then." (MW 353:3:10)

"our ideas of divinity form our models of humanity." (Peo. 14:10-11)
Some of the posts presented as human "facts" might suggest that a very dim view of "Divinity" is being held....

"Thought passes from God to man, but neither sensation nor report goes from material body to Mind. The intercommunication is always from God to His idea, man." (S&H 284:30-32)

"Let us accept Science, relinquish all theories based on sense-testimony, give up imperfect models and illusive ideals; and so let us have one God, one Mind, and that one perfect, producing His own models of excellence." (S&H 249:1-4)
