On Patriot's Day, April 17th, 2000, the 135th anniversary of the original dedication, the City of Lowell will rededicate the Ladd - Whitney Monument, the burial place of 17 year old Luther C. Ladd and 22 yr. old Addison O. Whitney, the first casualties of the War Of The Rebellion.
Over the past twelve months Lowell has completely cleaned and restored the monument and it's surrounding area.
The City Manager's office has asked me, because of my interest in Ladd & Whitney and the events of the 19th of April 1861 to help make this ceremony a success. Some of the events we have scheduled are:
2. A roundtable discussion of the events preceding and including the First Blood events.
3. A walking tour Lincoln visits Lowell, done in the first person by a Lincoln Re-Enactor.
4. Three cemetery tours:
* The second, at the Lowell Cemetery modeled after Mt. Auburn and the resting place of many of the area's well known soldiers and citizens.
* The third is the Hildreth family plot, located in the Hildreth St. cemetery the burial site of General Benjamin Butler, General Philip Reade, General Adelbert Ames, General Gardner Pearson, General Butler Ames, and Admiral Meade Pearson.
