Micah Joel King
07/21/1977 - 01/24/2006

Micah Joel KingMicah Joel King was a Senior level student at the University of Texas at Tyler. His was majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies in the College of Education. His passing has shocked many of his classmates and professors.

I just could not believe it when I saw the news last night. I had two classes with Micah. He was such a neat guy. He always had a smile and made the people around him laugh continuously. He seemed to love life as well as the children he worked with everyday. He kept calling you “Alex” in our class during the jeopardy game. He will truly be missed. Lauren

I was so shocked when I heard about Micah. He was such a bright spot in my day. He was always joking with me and making me laugh. He had a great sense of humor so I looked forward to him teasing me and Mandy in your class and microcomputers. It seems so unfair that he was taken so young, but I know there are greater plans than our own. I have been concerned that no one knew about it, but I recently told the head of the paper at school about it and I think she may be trying to figure something out as well. Let me know if there is anything I can do. Morgan

The thing that I remember about Micah is that he could make everyone laugh. I remember when we played Jeopardy and he kept make wise cracks. Thank you for letting us show the family and fellow students how much we care. Leslie

He was such a funny and nice guy! He helped me get set up with the Boys and Girls Club for one of the assignments in your class. When I visited the Cumberland Academy all of the other Boys and Girls Club employees really seemed to think so much of Micah! I just can't believe he's not with us anymore. He really cared for children and got so much enjoyment out of his time with them! Maranda

I remember Micah as a very quiet person in class most of the times but his eyes were always alert and engaged. The few times he was very animated in class was when he was sharing details of his participation in activities involving students with disabilities. He clearly loved working with children with disabilities and was also very good at it. His sensitivity and depth were good predictors of an exceptional future teacher. He also shared with the class last Fall that he had sleep apnea and nocturnal seizures that required him to wear breathing apparatus for safety. Everyone in the class was captivated by his story including me. Unfortunately this condition lead to his very sad and early demise. All of us offer our deepest condolences to his parents. We will remember him very fondly and regret so much that not only did we lose a good human being but also a great future teacher. Smita Mehta
