Captain –

A few things that I want to go over with you and since you don’t do email and I think of these things when I’m not in the game I decided to write them down and put them here.

It appears that we are going to be taking a more dominant role in politics now that you are the monarch.  Is there anything specific that you would like me to do to help?  Is there anything on the web page that you would like me to include about politics?  Would you like me to throw together a flag web page?  If so, what would you want on it?

I see the one flag wants to declare war on us and it looks like everyone else.  Do you have any thoughts on it?

About the crew, we want it to grow.  With growth there come many issues and responsibilities.  I think you might want to refine officer responsibilities.  I think that all promotions beyond that of officer should only be done by you and I state that in the web site.  I think I should be able to spot a potential officer, however young and green, and let them try it.  Since I ‘sponsored’ them it should be up to me to do all of the preliminary training. For instance –

Boohbooh wanted to be an officer, he had the stats and I didn’t find him too annoying.  So I promoted him one evening and had him read through the website.  I also made an appointment for the next night to take him out on a sloop pilly.  I spent a lot of time telling him how I think things should be and how you wanted them to be (to him they are identical).  This is a good way of training officers.  One on one.  Then I told him that he could go out on his own pillys but he had to restock and he can’t leave a ship out at sea or you wouldn’t like it.  Now, he is young, but I think this made an impression on him.  He came and told me the next day that he was pillying under another of our officers and they had to leave and just left the ship at sea.  He wasn’t sure what he should do so I talked to him and explained that he can’t just leave it in an uninhabited port which is where he managed to port it.  Like I said, he is young but I think he might work out.

We have to allow people to try to be officers if they qualify.  If we don’t then the crew might not see any potential for growth.  But you should be the only one to promote (on our recommendations).

At fleet level they have access to the holds.  We have to keep that in mind.  But I’m not sure what responsibilities you want for the different levels.  The best thing for you is not to be bothered by the rank and file so the officers should be the people that the crew goes to but I don’t know how much you want to be bothered by petty things from the regular officers either.  This is not too much of an issue now with only about 60 in our crew but if we double in size it could be.

Is there anything on the web site that you want for discipline?  How about our goals and plans?

For instance you mentioned about getting a larger ship.  A war frigate costs 108,000 poe plus 70 dubs.  Right now I think I have about 12K and 12 dubs on me.  Now I have been pumping in extra fund into my shop so I can start getting the special metals and enamels needed for different swords.  This, I might add, costs a fortune.  But I probably could get a war frigate in around 6 weeks +/-. Or do you have something else in mind about how to get these?  You could ask for a tithe from everyone’s pilly (say 10% of the stocking shares) and that you would collect them once a week.  Might be hard to do and I’m not sure how long that would take.

We also might want to think about the moral of the crew.  Think of it as this – why should they stay with us and not go to other crews.  Some of those crews are really good and not everyone is loyal like me (I get asked to be an SO in another crew at least twice a week).  We could put some fun things together.  Maybe something on the web site or we could set up a local TD contest at your house and then maybe you could put up something good as the prize.  Heck, I could throw in a foil, they only cost around 400.  You might want to look over some of the events that are listed in the forums as ideas.

Another thing is that you might want to think about listing times that you might be available.  Whether this is just for the officers or for the entire crew some people might want to get a hold of you and if you published available times it would help them.  You don’t have to list every time I’m thinking of saying that you would be around every (or almost every) Thursday from 5 to 6 pirate time.  This might be something for the SO’s and FO’s to do as well.  Remember, communication works!

BTW – not that I have any suggestions at this time but, do you have any plans for the shanghais?

Crew Economy – any thoughts on expanding it?  My IM stall is basically self supporting.  The shipwright stall never has enough goods.  I have looked a couple of times for getting a sloop and there are never enough supplies.  Nor have I ever seen her around to ask about it.  If people come to you asking about opening up a stall you should have some ideas to help them out.

For instance, location, location, location.  If the island has been heavily populated for a while there might be enough traffic but too many stalls to supply them.  But on the other hand you don’t want one where not too many people stop at.  I thought that Aimuari was a nice central location.  Make sure that they read everything they can on it and that they have plenty of money.
