August 7, 2006 I am newly captivated by Maxim Vengerov - his interpretations spoke to me with an ease that was startling when I first ran across some 1-2min clips of tchaik, schubert, shostakovich, ravel. Lives defined by humanity and humility, combined with impassioned reaches into the far corners of the soul and mind, are what perpetually inspire me. JULY 15, 2006 There is so much destruction and unimaginable evil in this world today, circumstances that could originate only from the narrowest of minds and the most clenched of souls. The one piece of uplifting news today was the report on Barbaro's rapid improvement after a turn for the worse last week. That horse seems like such a fighter with such an honest temperament - it's no coincidence that he's captured the hearts of so many around this country. Speaking of Barbaro, I recently learned that Iain, the most recent addition to the equestrian team, works with Barbaro's owners' son and has been asked to train an 11yr old half-brother to Barbaro, sired by Dynaformer. This guy also trains and plays polo with some of the world's top riders and is heavily involved in the racing circuit here and in England. Happy is she who has come across means to some of the most exciting events of the equine world. Will be going to a leper colony on Sorok Island in South Korea for two weeks at the end of the summer, staying at a convent and having free rein within the community, missions, and hospital - would have stayed for much longer but couldn't afford any more time away from the lab. Opportunities like this are what allow me to deepen and balance out in a way that would be entirely impossible otherwise - I am just thankful for the incredible pull I feel for work like this. Will have to squeeze in family, cat, and car time (eight 4runner-less months! that's too much.) in the 24hrs I have in Vancouver before leaving for Korea. Miss the little bro more than ever. Am heading out, take care all of you and have a wonderful summer. :)
