For many years, Oxford has been offering some of the most advanced paediatric medical care in the United Kingdom, particularly in the areas of cadriology, neurology and cranio-facial surgery.  However, it's facilities were not purpose-built for children and young people, and the spread of resources over 4 sites in the city is not at all practical for families or medical professionals.
In September 2002, The Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust launched a 15million ($22.5mil) fundraising campaign to finance the building of a new dedicated children's hospital for the city.  The hospital will be located on the John Radcliffe (JR2) site in Headington, and is expected to open in December 2005 at an estimated cost of 20million ($30mil).
To learn more about the campaign and the plans for the new children's hospital, please visit The official CHOX Campaign website, which is also hosting an online journal of my visits to various US children's hospitals at www.chox.org.uk/abbey.

The CHOX website is maintained by Newsquest Oxfordhsire, and its daily and weekly papers - the Oxford Mail and Times - carry regular features about the campaign.  They can be accessed online at This Is Oxfordshire.
