| A new idea that I came up with was to start having a contest on the site at all times. Hopefully this will help to add some traffic to this site. The first of these contests is going to be the Star Search contest. So I need you Young Marines to start your search ASAP. What I am looking for is a nice looking, white, 5-point star to add to our great looking ribbons on the home page of the site. We have them on our guidon and unit colors already so I only find it right to have it added on the site as well. The star must fit all of the above requirements, as well as be in either a .gif or .jpeg format. So either get to searching or draw a nice one of your own. Then shoot it to me in an e-mail for my review. The first one to do this will have their name posted on the site as well as another special prize. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| As you have probably already heard the unit has gone through some major changes over the past few weeks. including two new Executive Officers. Steven Trusty and Pamela Johnson were these two lucky receipients. So be sure to conratulate them the next time you see them. | The Miami Valley Young Marines sent 11 motivated youth to the Huber Heights Fire Department on August 27. The participants included LCpl Trusty, PFC Clark, PFC Cruea, PFC Talbott, PFC Nooks, PFC Mack, PFC Westendorf, PFC Conley, PFC Karnehm, Pvt Paden, and Pvt Kidder. These Young Marines are working towards their CPR certification as well as the CPR ribbon. Let's all wish them luck as they finish the training on September 17 when they will be taking their exam. The group was led by the training officer, Mr. Ray Girard. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| A new recruit class has begun, this one containing over 20 new Young Marine hopefuls. The first night was on Wednesday, August 27, and will end with a graduation ceremony on Wednesday, October 29. So work with them and help them through the struggle that you all also went through. Help them to become one of the few, the proud, the Young Marines! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The Young Marine of the year award is awarded by the Commanding Officer of a unit once a year. He chooses this Young Marine by their attitude, leadership abilities, participation, motivation, uniform appearence, anything and everything. Out of this whole unit it is very difficult to narrow it down to just one Young Marine, so more than one will be chosen to be on a board, the best at the board will be the Miami Valley Young Marine of the Year, but wait there's more. The unit's Young Marine that is chosen then moves up against the other chosen one's from the Battalion, then to the Regiment, all the way up to National. With the end of the Year only being seven months away, you may want to start thinking about it a little, if you prove it, you may just be the 2003 National Young Marine of the Year!! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
