MESSAGE FROM THE RIGHT HONORABLE PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA

"Computer and economic crimes are already spreading and posing a great challenge all over the world. The national workshop on " Effective Prevention of Computer and Economic Crimes" is very timely, practical and useful. It complements the Malaysian Government's efforts to combat cyber and economic crimes so as to make our country a better environment for commerce and industry.

The floodgates for computer crimes are already opened through the explosive growth in internet applications, electronic commerce, knowledge economy, and the IT industry. The advent of the internet opens not only a lot of opportunities for trade but also immense possibilities for computer frauds.

Thus, the need for information technology security has today become a prime global issue. The Government is deeply anxious to encourage the private sector to develop preventive IT security to protect while spurring the sprouting growth of e-commerce and online business activities.

To all the conference participants, I have the confidence that the international computer security experts and our local experts in combating computer, economic crimes and corruption could make this workshop a fruitful event. To the overseas delegates, I hope they will take time off after the conference to enjoy Malaysia's many touristic spots and its beautiful green environment "
