Chapter 9: “Proposal? All is Forgiven”

Viper and Sterling teleport us all back to my house.
That’s when Sage starts coming to. “Ow…who ran over me with that truck?”
I look at Sage, with him still supported on my shoulder. “Sage?”
He looks at me. “Hmm?”
I smile when I realize that he is his old self again, and hug him gently. “Oh, Sage, you came back!”
“Came back? You mean I was gone? Where did I go?” he asks her, confused.
“You don’t remember? You tried to kill us when you were evil.” She tells him, frowning.
“I tried to kill you?” He shakes his head. “I don’t remember ANY of that!”
“What’s the last thing you remember?”
He thinks. “The last thing I remember is…being struck down by lightning. That hurt.”
“Talpa must have put a spell on you. But you’re yourself again, and I love you.” I tell him, hugging him again, feeling relieved.
Sage returns the hug, smiling. “I love you too.” He confesses as he wraps his arms around me.
“Aww, how cuuuute.” Viper comments while batting his eyelashes at them teasingly, but in a kind way. Sterling smacks him in the arm.
Rowen rolls his eyes, smiling. “Thanks for helping, guys.”
“Yes, thank you.” Cye adds. “Would you two like to stay for tea?”
“Nah,” Viper says. “I need to be getting back.”
“Thank you, but no.” Sterling tells him politely. “I’m needed back at the Dynasty.”
“Oh, too bad.” Cye felt slightly disappointed, but then he smiled. “Come back to visit though.”
Sterling nods then he and Viper teleport out.
I smile then turn to Sage. “Sage? Did you hear my plea, before you went unconscious?”
He shakes his head. “No, I didn’t.”
“I said I would…” I faintly blush in shyness before continuing. “say “yes”. If you ever proposed to me.”
“Oh. OH!” He looks at me. “YOU WOULD??”
I nod, still smiling and blushing.
Rowen whistles. “Congrats, Sage!”
“Way to go, Sage!” Kento cheers.
“That’s wonderful.” Cye says. “So are you gonna propose?”
“Um…” It’s Sage’s turn to blush now. He looks over at Ryo, who gives him a slight nod, smiling. Sage nods back.
Then he turns to me. “Would you…m-marry me, Mia?”
I smile again and feel my fading blush deepen again. “Yes. Yes, I will.”
Sage’s eyes go wide as his smile covers half his face. He then picks me up in a huge bear hug and I laugh in amusement. Then he gently sets me back down.
“You have made me the happiest man alive, Mia.”
Rowen cuts in politely. “And it’s a good thing you came to when you did. Otherwise…”
“Huh?”
“Nevermind, Sage. Nevermind.”
“I feel the same way, Sage. Very happy.” I tell him, smiling.
“Great!”
I then lean close and kiss him deeply and he returns the kiss.
“So why were you in Anubis’ chamber?” Ryo asks me.
I break the kiss with Sage and look at the others to explain, mainly Ryo. “Anubis was holding me prisoner. He said he…wanted me to bear his children.”
“WHAT?!” Sage was shocked. But so were Ryo and Kento.
“That JERK!”
“I’d like to smash his head for that!”
“He didn’t…” Cye blushes modestly before continuing his question. “do anything, did he?”
I blush again. “He started to, but…luckily I escaped when I heard you guys.”
“I hope he didn’t truly accomplish anything…” Cye replies.
“If it turns out he did,” Sage answers. “we’ll just make sure the kid doesn’t know about it.”
I nod, and then look at Sage. Since we were being honest, I had to tell him more truth. “Sage…I saw you start to attack Ryo and managed to stop you.” Tears form in my eyes as I remember, but I go on. “But you pushed me off and then…tried to kill me.”
His eyes widen. He looks horrified. “I did??”
“Yeah, I was the first to fall, too.” Cye tells him, rubbing his chest where he’d been hit, even though there’s no pain there now.
“Then it was me.” replies Kento.
“Then me.” Adds Ryo.
“I was the only one you didn’t manage to hurt.” Rowen says.
I nod, head hanging. “You did, Sage…it was awful.”
Sage hangs his head in shame. “E-excuse me…” he runs out of the room.
“Poor Sage. He’s really taking this hard.” Ryo sympathizes.
“We all are.” I answer sadly. “I’m sorry. I just…we had to let him know.”
Cye walks up and gently pats my back. “It’s alright, Mia. It’s not your fault.”
“Yeah. He HAD to know.” Kento agrees.
“Sooner or later.” Rowen adds in.
“I’m going to go check on him. Please excuse me.”
“Good luck, Mia.” Ryo encourages. I nod to him then head up to Sage and Cye’s room.
Sage lays on his bed, face down. I softly knock on the door when I reach their room. “Sage?”
My reply is a muffled “G’away!” But I don’t get discouraged.
“Sage? It’s Mia.”
Silence.
“Can I come in? Please?” I hear a soft sigh.
“Fine.”
I enter the room, closing the door behind me and sit down on his bed beside him. “Are you okay, Sage? What’s bothering you?”
Sage’s face is still smushed into his pillow, so I get another muffled answer. “M’fine.”
“Sage…we know you didn’t mean to do those things. And…I forgive you. I do.”
He turns his head to look at me. “You do?”
I look back at him and nod.
He sighs as he sits up beside me. “I can’t believe I did that! How could I have let myself get turned to their side?”
“It’s not your fault, Sage. You were still weak from Cale’s attack and couldn’t fight as it as well. But everything’s okay now…” I rub his back with my soft hand in comfort. “And if needed…you’ll always have my shoulder to lean or cry on.”
“Maybe. Still, I could have done SOMETHING.”
“Well, the nightmare’s over. And like I said, you’ll always have me when needed. The others too.”
He stares at me for a moment. Then he takes me into his arms, rests his head on my shoulder and whispers. “Thank you…”
I accept his affection, just as I promised. “You’re welcome.”
He wraps his arms tighter around me and starts to cry softly in frustration. “I can’t believe I did that! To my friends!”
I speak to him in a motherly tome and I gently start to rub his back again. “There, there…everything’s alright now.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“Because I love you and I’ll do all I can to protect you.” I look down at him and smile softly, eyes shining with love and trust.
He sniffles. “I love you too.” He looks up at me with his tear-stained cheeks.
I kiss him and his kisses back, afterwards wiping his tears away. “Thanks, Mia.” He gives me a watery smile and I smile back.
“You’re very welcome.” Then he hugs me. Meanwhile downstairs…
Ryo is looking up in the direction of Sage and Cye’s room. “I hope he’s okay.”
“Yeah, this just isn’t like him.” Kento agrees.
“I’m sure he’ll be fine.” Cye encourages them. “He just needs some time to figure everything out.”
And back upstairs.
I hug Sage back, still smiling. “I love you so much.” He gives me another watery smile. “I would risk my life for you, but I will never leave you. I promise.”
“You’re the best.”
“I smile, blushing lightly. “Same to you, Sage.”
“Do you think we should go back downstairs? The guys must be wondering.”
“Only if you feel ready.”
He sighs. “I might as well. I’m getting thirsty.”
I smile and we head back down together. Kento is the first to notice and he waves to us.
“Hey, Sage.”
“How are you feeling?” Cye asks him.
“Much better, thanks. But right now I could really go for some of your tea.”
Cye smiles. “Of course.” He heads to the kitchen to make it.
I lead Sage over to the couch and sit down beside him, resting my head on his shoulder and he rests a hand on my thigh.
“I’m glad you’re feeling better, Sage.” Ryo comments.
“Thanks, Ryo.”
Cye walks in from the kitchen and hands Sage his cup of tea. “Here you are.”
“Thanks Cye.” He takes a sip. “Mmm…you always make the best tea.”
Cye smiles proudly.
I start to sit up so Sage can have more room, but he just continues to sip his tea happily.
Kento whispers to Ryo. “Me thinks he’s gone a bit loopy from the experience. He’s never sipped tea like that before.”
“You do have a point there.” The Ronin leader agrees.
I smile, not ready to tell the others what had happened upstairs just yet.
“I’m glad you lie it, Sage. Would you like some too, Mia?”
I look at him, still smiling. “No thank you, Cye. I’m fine.”
“Alright.”
Sage glances up to see Ryo and Kento looking at him oddly. “What?”
Ryo blushes. “Nothing.” Kento just looks away, whistling innocently.
“I think they wish they had me.” I reply teasingly, winking to them.
Ryo blushes even more and Kento’s eyes widen. “W-what?!”
Cye and Sage both laugh and I join in.
“Just kidding, guys.”
Ryo breathes a sigh of relief, and Kento practically falls over.”Mia! You little…!” Then he gives his big, doofy smile and I laugh again.
“Kento, you are nut.” Sage tells him teasingly.
“I try.”
Rowen then asks everyone, “So what are we going to do now?”
“Anything you want.” I reply.
“How about we go to sleep?” he suggests. “We’ve had a very trying day.”
I smile softly. “Sure.”
“That’s a good idea.” Ryo agrees. “I’ll see you guys in the morning.” He heads upstairs, Rowen following.
“Night, Ryo. Night Rowen.” I tell them.
“Night!” they both call from upstairs.
“I’ll catch you two later, too.” Cye replies, stifling a yawn as he heads upstairs.
“Goodnight, Cye.” Sage says.
I watch Sage go upstairs and then turn to Sage, speaking softly. “Looks like we’re alone again.”
He smiles at me slowly. “Yes, it does, doesn’t it? Whatever shall we do?”
“We can stay here, or we can go upstairs too. It’s up to you.”
He snuggles up to me. “I’m comfy right where I am.” He flashes me a silly grin.
I snuggle up to him as well as I giggle softly. “Oh, Sage, you don’t know how good it makes me feel to have you back.”
“Same here.”
I snuggle a bit closer to him and sigh happily. He smiles back wrapping an arm around me in which I gladly accept.
“So what now?” He asks me. “Wanna just cuddle or go to sleep too?”
“It doesn’t matter. As long as I can be with you.”
He smiles softly at these words. “Alright then.” He cuddles closer to me.
“Sage?”
“Hmm?”
“I was just curious…what were you thinking when I said yes to your proposal?”
He blinks, slightly surprised by the question. “I don’t think I had that capability at that time.”
I chuckle at this. “Too shocked, huh?” Then I wink at him, tapping his nose gently with a finger.
He laughs. “Yeah, I guess I was. Wasn’t expecting that.”
“I understand.”
We both smile at one another.
Sage cuddles Mia as she falls asleep in his arms. ‘Sweet dreams, my love…’ Then he closes his eyes and falls asleep too. Things were at peace once again. Now and forever…until that time calls them again.
