Q. Thinking a bit ahead, do you think about maybe playing Martina Navratilova in the doubles match if it ever got that far?
MARTINA HINGIS: I don't know. That would be like in the finals, or when would it be?
Q. I think it's the semifinals.
MARTINA HINGIS: Well, that's a little bit far ahead. I'm glad we won today. It was long waiting around. We haven't played together in a while. Just good to have the first one down, and then we have to play tomorrow. That's a long way.So they won today, I guess?
Q. Yes. Would it be something special to play?
MARTINA HINGIS: I don't want to think about it yet.
Q. Is doubles still good a way of taking the pressure off yourself or do you think of it very much as matches like singles matches?
MARTINA HINGIS: Both ways it's good. I mean, playing with Mary, it's a lot of fun, entertaining. It was good.Obviously it was a long day and everything, but I felt very good. You get the volleys, practice, everything, just try to be aggressive. You get the court sense also very well. In doubles especially you have to place it well, just try to do things.Plus I haven't played that many matches on clay yet, so every match for me is going to be good. Hopefully it's going to get better and better, as it did already today from yesterday. I think it was a big improvement.
Q. You played Anna Kournikova last year. Why was the change this year?
MARTINA HINGIS: I played with her?
Q. In doubles last year.
MARTINA HINGIS: It was a few reasons, but I don't want to really talk about it. It's private. Well, private it's not.
Q. Have you fallen out with Anna?
MARTINA HINGIS: No. We still talk together. I mean, we were the best team last year. We had some great matches, great victories. It was for different reasons or other reasons than tennis reasons. It's something else. We are not in a fight or anything, no. I have great memories playing with her as one of the best teams, I think.
Q. I know you've been playing with Mary all year. Does it actually help to have a French partner at this tournament?
MARTINA HINGIS: Well, here, especially the French, if you do well, they love you. If you don't, they don't.With Mary, we're pretty much similar, you know. I played with her since the beginning of the year, so I didn't really think if I play the French, if that's going to help me playing with Mary or something. I just took it as it comes. I love playing with her. I mean, we have so much fun and we also practice sometimes together. It's a very nice relationship so far, yes.
Q. Does the crowd help?
MARTINA HINGIS: Well, today it was packed. Even we played till late, Court 3, still the people hang around here. It was good to play. It was a nice feeling. We also play very well from the beginning on. It was a lot of fun.
Q. Your former doubles partner, Kournikova, has taken a lot of criticism this week. Do you feel sorry for her?
MARTINA HINGIS: If you want to talk about me, my tennis, it's fine. I'm not here to talk about Anna. She's my friend and everything. If you want to write a story, you ask her what she thinks, about her life.
Q. What about your chances here? How do you feel about your own form on clay?
MARTINA HINGIS: Well, I think so far it's going well. I'm playing better and better. As I said, the more matches I play, hopefully the better it gets, as it was today. Just taking it match by match, looking forward to playing Dragomir. I played her two years ago in the fourth round also. We'll see.
