Q. You struggled on that court before, if my memory serves me correctly. It's a nice, intimate court. Is there something about the surface or anything that bothers you?
MARTINA HINGIS: I like that court actually. I love it, because I never lost on that court, only doubles finals last year, so it's not that important. But I didn't lose. I think it was a great match today. I mean, that girl played very well. I knew her from the other tournaments. I know that she can play some really good tennis. But today kind of the surface and everything, suited her really well. She had a similar game to mine. She's physically quite strong, too. But, yeah, I have good memories about that court. I know I came back from being two match points down. It can only be good.
Q. You seem to have had a good reception from the fans over the last two or three days. Do you think in a sense that you've actually won them over after all the events of last year?
MARTINA HINGIS: Oh, it was nice to play in front of the crowd today. I mean, I also think it was a good match, long rallies, good points. I mean, for sure I hope it made them happy. That's what we're there for. We're kind of the entertainers. I was happy to win that match today, definitely.
Q. But I mean prior to the start of the tournament, you were saying you would hope the fans would forgive you for last year. Do you think that's happened?
MARTINA HINGIS: Well, I think the people so far have been very nice to me. As I said, since I'm here, you know, they kind of respected me. As I said before, they never recognized me as much as they do now this year. It's also now I'm three years at the top of the tennis game. Somehow it's very nice to come back to this tournament, yeah.
Q. So how do you spend your time during this kind of long tournament, raining occasionally?
MARTINA HINGIS: Well, you have your rhythm, one day off, one day playing. Now I play tomorrow singles and doubles. Now it's going to be more and more matches. They're going to get tougher and tougher. But I think also because I didn't play that much in the last maybe one and a half months, so every match I play, it's going to be good for me. So I just get the court sense and everything, because I didn't play that much. Just I think today was good to have that one under my belt, and now I'm looking forward to the next one.
Q. Do you have time in the evenings?
MARTINA HINGIS: Time to do something else?
Q. Yes.
MARTINA HINGIS: Well, I think I did enough walking around here in Paris because where I stay, it's a very nice area. I walk around the shops. But that's kind of my superstition. I never buy anything before I win a few matches. I just want to first make myself do well, then I go and go shopping or something, but not before. Like yesterday, I had a nice bath. What else you going to do? I practiced like three hours yesterday, then I came back. I was already back at five. I had room service, so that was nice. I was kind of tired. It's kind of frustrating weather. It's cold. You don't want to be out too much. You just want to relax.
Q. You have got nearly everything in your career. What kind of course do you have in the future?
MARTINA HINGIS: I mean, it's a beautiful game. I love playing tennis. That's what keeps me going. I think I'm far away from having everything I want or accomplish. I mean, of course I'm young, I have already won a lot. This is my sixth year or eighth time to come back here for the French. Still I don't see a reason why should I stop or what carries me on. I mean, just the game.
Q. How much is it like outside of tennis? Do you have time for friends?
MARTINA HINGIS: Well, I mean, tennis is a very selfish game in a way because you have to work, you have fewer hours of training. If somebody doesn't want to respect it, it's hard to kind of find friends. I have my friends on the tennis court and also sometimes when I go out, of course you find somebody. I don't want to go out alone. It's like my biggest support is my mom and Mario. Anytime I want, I can go with them. If I find somebody else, whether I'm in Florida or in Czech Republic, you always try to go with your friends. But the most important thing is you have to practice and you have to, you know, work for yourself. Nobody can -- this is the time I can play tennis. Maybe in five, ten years, I won't be able to do it anymore. After that I have enough time to go party or whatever.
Q. Do you watch a lot of movies or read a lot of books?
MARTINA HINGIS: Actually, yeah. The other day I went to see Mission to Mars.
Q. How was that? MARTINA HINGIS: Well, it was very slow (laughter). I was waiting for a better something. It was kind of an impressive movie, how things have developed on the planet, and also Mars. I mean, the way people think things happen. It's a very interesting movie, but it's kind of the two hours, you sometimes look at the watch, one more hour, half more hour, something happen more exciting.
Q. Do you have any favorite actors or actresses?
MARTINA HINGIS: I like Julia Roberts a lot. I haven't seen the movie, but everybody is talking about it. Maybe I go when I have another day off, Erin Brockovich. Otherwise, Tom Cruise is a good actor, Matt Damon.
Q. Have you ever think about what would you do if you never a tennis player?
MARTINA HINGIS: Never came up to my mind actually. That was always my life. I don't regret anything for what I did or what I'm doing. Of course as a little girl you have dreams to be this or that, maybe model, actress, maybe this. Tennis has always been the number one thing.
Q. You have said a lot of things which have got publicity. Do you think the press has misunderstood you?
MARTINA HINGIS: I only try to look into the future. You always make mistakes. If you look at the paper, you always see somebody killing each other. I don't think I have killed anybody, hurt anybody sometimes. You learn from mistakes. You just have to go on. Because I'm so much in the spotlight, so every word is taken, sometimes maybe not the right way, you're right.
Q. Do you feel added pressure in that this is the one Grand Slam you haven't won?
MARTINA HINGIS: I think this is the most difficult one, so the pressure just comes with the way you play. I think today was a very tough match. I just take it day by day. That's all I can do right now.
Q. Is there added pressure for you personally?
MARTINA HINGIS: Not really. You have to play a tournament match-by-match. It's just today was a very good crowd. It was full on Court 1. It was nice. You always like to play in front of a public.
Q. If there had been any way, would you have liked to play with Martina Navratilova in doubles?
MARTINA HINGIS: I have my partner, which is Mary Pierce. I really enjoy playing with her. I haven't considered that. No, not yet.
Q. Be a nice idea?
MARTINA HINGIS: I don't know. As I said, I like playing with Mary.
