I attended Yuba College after
high school, transferring with
my new bride to UC Berkeley in 1962.
Graduated in 1965 and went to work for
Shell at
Emeryville Research Center in Human
Resources.
U.S. Army from 1966-68; First Air Cavalry
Division in
Vietnam and 6th Armored Cavalry Regiment
at Ft. Meade, Maryland.
Daughter Julie born 1967.
Worked at Shell's Martinez Refinery
and then
transferred to HQ in Houston, Texas
in 1972.
Worked in various parts of the Company
while
based in Houston; lived and worked in
Tulsa 1978-80
and then in Saudi Arabia 1984-87.
To Bakersfield in 1987.
Retired from Shell in 1995 and moved
to Oceanside in 1999
(daughter, son-in-law and new grandson
live here).
After leaving Marysville, I rarely came
back for visits until we moved
back to California. My parents
lived there (in East Marysville)
until their passing in late eighties
and early nineties.
We now get up there 2-3 times per year
to visit
my wife's mother and brother in Gridley.
When I think back on those days growing
up there in the 50's,
I am reminded of the idyllic early scenes
in the movie
"Born on the Fourth of July"....
I still think it is a beautiful little
town in a lovely area.
