This is my 1981 Suzuki DR500, sold to me by my VERY generous friend, Tom. It ran beautifully, and roared down the road with suprisingly quick speed. When I bought it, it needed a new kickstart and compression release cable, but besides that, it was mint. The thing tears grass with a slight flick of the wrist and roars as it does it. The first day I had it, I had just washed the seat, and I decided to check it out and open it up.... Bad idea for an unexperienced rider! The newly cleaned seat was nice and slick, and I slid all the way to the back of it! The front end eased it's way off the ground, and about scared the piss outta me! When I got used to it I could yank the throttle and pull the front end about 3 - 4 1/2 feet off the ground and hold it for about 3 house-lengths. The thing has taken me everywhere I've wanted to be and beyond! It used yank me up hills in a heartbeat, leave deep gouges in grass fields like nothing, and even slammed me through a few mud pits that no SUV (not even a Jeep) could even dream of getting through! |
