At the end of the Great War, an officer named Kitchener, son of a former Governor, and nephew of the former Senior Army Officer, killed by Bermuda Boer War escapee Fritz Duquesne's German-allied cell during the war, returned to the islan having served as an aviator. He began a commercial air operation on Hinson's Island, in Hamilton Harbour. This was based on Avro 504k float planes and Supermarine flying boats, bought from the RAF, and still wearing military markings. The operation was short-lived, but Kitchener's home, atop the island, still bears the name he gave it: 'Ad Astra'.
