English can make new words by adding a suffix to the end of a word. 1. A suffix is a group of letters which can be added to the end of words to give the word a new meaning. The same meaning is always added by the same suffix. What suffixes do you know? What meaning do they add to words?

Use the hints to help you if necessary. - ment added to verbs to make nouns connected to making or doing things. - ship added to nouns in order to form other nouns which refer to status. - ee added to verbs to make nouns to refer to a person to whom the action is being done. - less added to nouns to make adjectives to say that something does not have this thing. - ful added to nouns which refer to containers to make countable nouns. - st added to numbers that end in 1 to make the ordinal number. - ist added to uncountable nouns to make count nouns and adjectives.
