English expressions

Here are some common English expressions. They all use verbs of speaking.

2. Look at these common expressions in the example sentences. They all use verbs of speaking but do not mean the same as the verb alone. Match the expression with the meaning.

As you say, we agree on most things.

This is used to repeat and agree with what someone has said.

Talking of Julia, I saw her yesterday.

To introduce a new topic by connecting it to the present topic.

That reminds me, I need to go to the bank.

This is used to say something the present topic has reminded you of.

As I was saying, I am not sure why you did that.

To return the topic of conversation to an earlier one.

If you ask me, they should have won.

To give your ideas about something even though you have not been asked.

3. Try to use these fixed expressions in your speaking.

    1. أَيّ تعابير مشتركة تَعْرفُ في اللغةِ الإنجليزيةِ؟ كَيفَ تَعلّمتَهم؟


    2. إنظرْ إلى هذه التعابيرِ المشتركةِ في جُمَلِ المثالَ. هم جميعاً يَستعملونَ أفعالَ كَلام لكن لا تَعْني تماماً مثل الفعل لوحده. جار التعبيرَ بالمعنى.

    كما تَقُولُ، نُوافقُ على أكثر الأشياءِ.
    هذا يُستَعملُ لتكرار ومُوَافَقَة ما شخص ما قالَ.

    كَلام عن جوليا، رَأيتُها أمس.
    لتَقديم a موضوع جديد بإيصاْله إلى الموضوعِ الحاليِ.

    بِالمناسبة، أَحتاجُ للذِهاب إلى المصرفَ.
    هذا يُستَعملُ لقَول شيءِ الموضوعِ الحاليِ ذكّرَك.

    بينما أنا كُنْتُ أَقُولُ، لَستُ متأكّدَ لِماذا أنت عَمِلتَ ذلك.
    لإرْجاع موضوعِ المحادثةِ إلى وقت سابق مِنْ.

    إذا تَسْألُني، هم كان يَجِبُ أنْ يَرْبحوا.
    لإعْطاء أفكارِكَ حول الشيءِ بالرغم من أنَّ أنت لَمْ تُسْأَلْ.

    3. حاولْ إستعمال هذه التعابيرِ الثابتةِ في الكَلام.
