Shore Thing Missions Trip 2003
During the summer of 2003, I lead a team of 13 youth and adults to the Eastern Shore of Virginia for a week in mission. While on a mission trip to Mexico in 2002, I felt like God wanted me to lead a team the following summer. I prayed that God would bring the team together and He blessed me with a wonderful adn diverse group. We had a bi-racial mix that represented 5 different churches. The group bonded as we served the Lord and spread His word on the  Eastern Shore.

We had a busy week. We held a Vacation Bible School for the children in Horntown, VA. The VBS was held at the Agape Center which is a local outreach center in that community. The Agape Center was an old Methodist Church that has been renovated and is now used for preschool and afterschool programs throughout the year. The local missionary Eric Banks, had hoped to have many different groups come in to lead Bible School in this impoverished area and God provided several teams this summer. The children in this area have very little and come from very violent and drug and alcohol infested areas. The kiids are often left ot fend for themselves often at a very young age. We were blessed to get to know these children who were starving for the love of Chirst. The highlight of our week was when 8 teens and children accepted Jesus as Savior for the first time. It was awesome to see these children come into the kingdom.

We also were busy with several work projects. One day we cleaned at the Agape Center as they have no regular maintenance staff. Two days we worked to clean an other old Methodist Church that had been partially renovated to be a missions team hospitality house. The other two days we traveled to Northampton County and joined the Harvest of Hope group for some gleaning. We had a wonderful time harvesting over 18,000 pounds of potatoes that were given to the food bank. It was hard work, but it was very rewarding.

We learned about hunger and how important it is to feed people both with spiriitual and physical food. There are many people dying each day from malnutrition, but it is even worse to die and not know Jesus as your Lord and Savior. God sent His only Son Jesus to die on the cross for each and every one us. We only need to admit that we are sinners (we do wrong things) and ask God for forgiveness and to come and live within our hearts. God created us as His children to live in fellowship with Him and with one another. He desires to have a personal relationship with each and every one of us. Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven. Will you go to heaven one day? I sure hope so, God doesn't want any of His children to die and not spend eternity with Him.
