Untitled Cover Art created by Michael Arnold
for the book "GenXsis"

This picture was originally made in January of 1999 as cover art for a book about the changes in the world at the turn of the millenium. It was made through a combination of mediums, including actual newspaper headlines, enlarged and in negative. They were chosen to show the '"state of the world" at that time... sadly, these were collected from a single newspaper in one day. The reference to "The Scream" by Edvard Munch is an intentional one meant to convey the chaos in the world and the near-overwhelming burdens of modern American life. Governmental policies covering an ear and an eye, love and money around his chest, and religion around his groin - each constricting around us like a snake. The world is turned upside down, burning and bleeding from the horrors of war.

It is a somber painting made to reflect the feeling of the author and tone of the book. Although it was ultimately not chosen as a cover image because of its complexity, plans have been made to turn this single image into an animated opening sequence should the book ever make it to the big screen.
