Why did you choose a
job/career in this field? Working
in corporate finance, transaction services, and valuations gives me an
opportunity to do so many different things, and no two days are ever the same
(which is something that I really enjoy).
I've had the opportunity to work on private company valuations, where
owners/shareholders for a variety of reasons will have a business valuation
done to determine what the fair market value of their company is. I've also had the opportunity to work on
a number of financial due diligence projects for clients who are looking at the
opportunity of making financial or strategic acquisitions. I have also had the opportunity to work
on a divestitures, business plans, financing packages, and financial
models. How did you decide on
your job/Career? I
was working in industry as an accountant, and decided after about 5 or 6 months
that I wasn't passionate about what I was doing. I knew at that point, that I needed a
change, I wanted a career where I would enjoy going to work every day, and
enjoy what I was doing, I also wanted a career that
would challenge me on a continuous basis.
At that point I started looking for something different,
and through perseverance and a little bit of luck I happened to find a posting
with Deloitte which turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. How did you find your
job/Career? I
found my current position with Deloitte through an online posting on the
careers section of the Deloitte website What suggestions could
you give to those out there who would like to work for the same company or are
looking to make a similar career move? If
you’re still a student, get involved in activities and programs at your
university, volunteer with student clubs and organizations, and get involved in
recruiting events, they're a great opportunity to meet Human Resource managers,
recently hired graduates, and current employees of companies you may want to
work for. Do your research, and
talk to people who work for that company if you can to see if it's really what
you want, and if you'll “fit” with the organization. My biggest suggestion would be to be
honest with yourself - Ask yourself: what am I
passionate about, what does success really mean to me? Once you figure that out, plot the steps
necessary to get yourself closer to that goal, and start achieving! As a part of our annual performance
assessment program at Deloitte, we are asked to put our short term and long
term goals into writing, along with the steps we feel will help us in achieving
those goals, throughout the year we review our goals and it really helps you
become accountable to what you want to achieve – this is a great exercise
for everyone no matter what stage they are at in their career. |
