| About Fox Hound: The origin of FOX HOUND In 1990, to fight against local rebellions, regional conflicts and terrorism, a special covert black-ops group was founded in secret. The name of the troop: "FOX HOUND". FOX HOUND in the beginning was a team of special agents who partook in international incidents and provided military relief in "non-official combat" zones which are too strong in the political sense to intervene through military power. FOX HOUND agents are trained to complete their various missions they are assigned to in total secrecy, and are considered by some a "modern ninja". DUTY OF FOX HOUND FOX HOUND was formed by the NATO commitee (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) in order to do the unspoken "dirty work" without being nationally represented. It was a way, in plain sense, to get around all sorts of international treaties and diplomatic blockades. FOX HOUND's duties were, under non-official combat status, to sneak deep into the enemy's border where no national intelligence cannot enter, and provide reconaissance about enemy military force. All members of FOX HOUND have been superbly trained and have mastered various skytrooper, survival, weapon, intelligience and demolition techniques. All are thoroughly acquainted with secret invasion tactics from both under the water and over the land, and air, so they can advance in secrecy by any kind of breach or flaw in security. Moreover, they have masteries and knowledge over survival for extended periods of time in such adverse and hostile surroundings as jungles and deserts, arctic weather and the like. Members of FOX HOUND have shown and demonstrated expertise in all of the following: acurate tailing, detonation operations, wireless communications, the seizure and reuse of enemy weapons, collection of information, emergency medical operations, linguistics, and nearly anything required for being an overwhelming special forces group. Up until this point in history, many special forces units were tried and used, but with limited success. The most common drawback of these early special forces units were the limited jurisdictions given by it's parent organization and/or country. Treaties forbade a "spy" organization parented by a single nation to operate against other nations for the reasons of national security. Mainly for this reason can the creation of FOX HOUND be attributed to. NATO needed desperately a multi-talented insider organization to ensure political balance in the world, and chose an American-Japanese commando to lead the group. This first leader of FOX HOUND can only in these documents be named "Big Boss" for confidentiality reasons. NATO chose Big Boss after a long review of his dark past as a soldier with more experience than nearly any man alive at the time. Deemed "The Legendary Soldier", as was the extent of his supreme fighting ability, he took charge in commanding OPERATION INTRUDE N313. By then, Big Boss's most skilled lieutenant had won his favor by his mastery of earning the FOX HOUND organization's highest honor, the code-name "Gray Fox". Big Boss decided that Gray Fox was the most experienced man in his squad and the most capable for a mission, and assigned him to OPERATION INTRUDE N313, FOX HOUND's first large-scale international job. In the summer of 1995, rumors of the possible development of an apocalyptic weapon being conceived in South Africa reached NATO from inside sources. In retaliation, NATO called upon FOX HOUND for their first major mission. Upon receiving his orders directly from NATO, Big Boss sent FOX HOUND to investigate the area, somewhere near Galzburg, South Africa. Agent Gray Fox was left in charge of the infiltration. However, the entire FOX HOUND squad was captured early on and NATO lost contact with the team. After several days went by without a word from Agent Gray Fox, NATO began to worry. Finally a single weak transmission reached FOX HOUND headquarters, the only message the missing Gray Fox could manage. It simply read "...metal gear..." and then the transmission mysteriously ended. What could the words "metal gear" mean? And what had happened to Gray Fox? NATO was nearly crushed by the news, knowing that special-forces unit FOX HOUND was probably the last major attempt at a successful anti-terrorism program. With the growing instability in the world, FOX HOUND was NATO's crutch, it's last hope at preserving peace. So, with only the best to hope for, Big Boss was ordered to send another operative to infiltrate the hardened compound that was Outer Heaven. And so, Big Boss sent in a relatively "green" and inexperienced rookie to the FOX HOUND team in the form of Agent Solid Snake. Solid Snake successfully infiltrated Outer Heaven, and freed the hostages, as well as Gray Fox, who told him Outer Heaven's plans and the name of the doomsday device. Providing reconaissance to Big Boss and local resistance members, Solid Snake unveiled a sinister scandal involving a weapon of mass destruction codenamed Metal Gear TX-55. The ending of the scandal saw Big Boss's integrity as FOX HOUND's Commander in Chief ruined, and Big Boss himself destroyed while the walls of Outer Heaven were leveled all around him. After learning of the corruption surrounding FOX HOUND's highest commander, in which Solid Snake was a pawn in the scheme, Solid Snake took an early retirement from FOX HOUND and disappeared. Mission #2: Zanzibar Land FOX HOUND's success during OPERATION INTRUDE N313 (despite the departure of Big Boss from it's ranks), had suited NATO well. FOX HOUND was given another situation to handle in the year 1999. This mission not having as much significance to do with FOX HOUND as it did it with one of it's former operatives, it played a part in FOX HOUND's history nonetheless. While little did most of the world know that threatening to topple the world's economy was a massive energy crisis only months away, many world leaders knew it was inevitable. When a Czechoslovakian environmental-scientist discovered a rare oil-refining microbe, it immediately became the hope of the scientific community. The enviro-scientist became the living saviour of the world, and was hailed by all for his discovery to put an end to the quickly dissipitating fuel supply. Before he could make his findings public, though, he disappeared. FOX HOUND, being apart from NATO now, and becoming it's own solid foundation, ditched the code-name system used in FOX HOUND's earlier days under the command of Big Boss. FOX HOUND was soon after contracted by the United States own Central Intelligience Agency and declared something be done. FOX HOUND immediately narrowed the play of events down to a plane hijacking, in which Czech scientist Dr. Kio Marv, founder of the Oilix microbe (name derived from a combination of the words "oil" and "mix") was abducted. Dr. Marv's abduction was soon traced to an independently-governed republic named Zanzibar land, located roughly 25 miles off the coast of Tanzania. Under United States orders, new FOX HOUND Commander-in-Chief Roy Campbell allowed former FOX HOUND Agent Solid Snake to be called out of retirement and back into active duty. Mission parameters were to cooperate with the CIA to covertly rescue Dr. Marv and retrieve the Oilix formula and solve the energy crisis at hand. Being more experienced in the field than the previous operation, Solid Snake penetrated deep into the fortified innards of Zanzibar land. Meeting up with Dr. Marv, the Oilix formula was retrieved and another plot soon was dishevelled revealing that the Metal Gear TX-55 had been transferred shortly after the fall of Outer Heaven into it's new province in Zanzibar and a prototype had been created. The CIA demanded of Snake the ultimate destruction of the weapon thought to have been non-existent. Upon doing so, Solid Snake was met with heavy opposition from ex-FOX HOUND member Gray Fox and a further incident involving FOX HOUND's former Commander-in-Chief Big Boss, previously thought to be deceased. The end of this fiasco resulted in the fall of Zanzibar, with Gray Fox and Big Boss being casualties of the "Mercenary War" as it would later be called. The plan for the Metal Gear had failed, thanks to FOX HOUND Agent Solid Snake. However, Solid Snake dejected from having any relations with FOX HOUND, and after being reprimanded for his questioning nature towards his agency, cut all ties with both the CIA and Special-Forces Unit FOX HOUND before he himself disappeared from the world of black operations. Shadow Moses Island Revolt Special Forces Unit FOX HOUND played a highly significant role just after the dawn of the new millenium, the year 2001. The United States had just been contacted by a terrorist organization, declaring that they have taken over a U.S. nuclear disposal facility on a small stretch of land call Shadow Moses Island in the Fox Archipelago, Alaska. The terrorist's were soon identified as the former NATO-bred FOX HOUND squad. They demanded that the U.S. government turn over the remains of the deceased Big Boss as well as $1 billion dollars. Unable to make an official attack upon the base, the government contacted ex-FOX HOUND commander Roy Campbell, in order to get a hold of Agent Solid Snake. Campbell cooperated and Snake was sent into the forte. In order to discover the terrible secret this terrorist action covered up, Snake was forced to destroy the six remaining members of FOX HOUND in order to find out their modus operandi, which in the end, turned out to be another backstab for Snake. Solid Snake was once again caught amidst a scandal of massive proportions involving high members of the U.S. government and another Metal Gear prototype, "Metal Gear Rex." Destroying the Metal Gear Rex, Solid Snake was forced to kill off the supposed last member of the family he never knew, who doubled as the leader of FOX HOUND. Snake, thinking he'd ridded himself of his awful past with the end of the Shadow Moses Island Revolt, once again disappeared. After the operation, Snake was last officially seen being picked up by helicopter on Fox Island with an alibi whom he had escaped with. |
