| Andrew Kupisch Christmas Day Classic 12/25 Overview: I really don't know where to begin... As of right now, I plan to make this the crown jewel of the MGRC-WS. Technically, it's not really an official race, but the MGRC plans to make it an exclusive race for high school and college runners. Last year this was a two man race between Andrew and myself, which he won because he invented the race and the course, and because he's faster. Basically, we just ran on the street and his cousin drove the pace car very slowly pumping classic rock; we even crossed paths with a cop, who suprisingly had no problem with our shinanigans. I haven't even talked to Andrew about his race yet, but last year we decided to make it a tradition, so that's how it's going to go. There is one huge advantage and one huge disadvantage about this race. The disadvantage is that the race is on Christmas Day, which undoubtedly will pose numerous conflicts. The huge advantage is that it's our race so we can do whatever we want. If we can get some solid plans down, the potential for this race is unlimited. Cost: Probably somewhere between $10-$25 (the more people the cheaper) Where/When: probably the street that Andrew lives on (where it was last year) on Christmas afternoon Perks: As of right now, we've come up with some ballin t-shirts (check the links on the front page for the prototypes) plus I'm sure we'll figure out some other stuff (i.e. - food, music thumping pace car, awards, etc.) New Year's Eve 1/31/04 Posible Races: Hard Core 5k - Kewanee - Far away, but early in the day 1pm (i think it has awesome sweatshirts), cheap. As of Right now, this is the choice Univeral Sole Resolution Run - Chi-town - U-Sole usually puts on a great race, kind of expensive, 6pm Last Race of the Year - Chi-town - doesn't sound that special, starts at 8, sounds like you get a lot of free food Get-Lit - East Peoria - Probably the least likely, far away, cool thing is that course sounds sweet, and you will be running literally when the year changes (starts @ 11:50), 2mi, $18, Cool name Elmhurst New Year's Day Run 1/1/05 Info: We've never run this before and the only things I know are that it's a 5k at 11am somwhere in Elmhurst. I think the big draw for this one is the potential to race some Yorkies. Siberian Express 1/8/05 Overview: This is another one that none of us have ever run, but I think it is one of the most intriguing possibilities of the MGRC-WS. It's a long trail run in the dead of winter, which makes for a potentially fun and/or miserable experience. Also, some of the perks soud very sweet. Cost: $15 by 11/20 $20 by 12/24 $25 after 12/24 When/Where: 1/8/05 Danvile, IL (i think close to Indiana) Kickapoo State Recreation Center, 11:00am Perks: Top 50 get awards, post-race party (included in price), very cheap if you sign up early, unique race Official Website (click on flyer) New Events Added: MGRC "Ballin at the Track" Winter Track Meet Overview: Basically just to throw in some speed and set some MGRC records. Also, I've never run an outdoor track meet in December or January. This possibly could take the place of the Siberian Express because I didn't realize Danville was 2.5 hours away. Any events that people want to do will be included, including the steeple. Cost: Free When/Where: TBA probably @ the DGN track Perks: Uh....we'll shovel off the track. Maybe we'll bust out some hot chocolate. S-No-W Fun Run Overview: 5 miler. Another alternative to the Siberian Express. A little closer (even though it's in Wisonsin, and it sounds like a pretty scrill race. Any race on this day will go towards scoring for the MGRC-WS Cost: $20 Pre Reg $22 Race Day When/Where: 1/8/05 Lake Geneva, WI (1.5 hours away from DG) at 2:30 Perks: Shirt, Team Competition and whatnot Rudolph Ramble Overview: Although I won't be able to run this race since I'll still be at school, I encourage everybody to run this race. If it's even half as obnoxious as it was last year, it will be amazing. Cost: $20 When/Where: Sunday December 12. Downtown Chicago at eh Lakefront Perks: T-shirts, a lot of free stuff, all around ballerness |
