Meta Louise Bolzau Hazelton
Born:  May 24, 1887
Tempe, Maricopa, Arizona
Died:  July 17, 1860
Phoenix, Arizona

My grandmother, Meta, was definitely the solitary beauty in our family on the outside and deep within herself where it counted.  She took over the responsibility of raising we after my mother died in 1945.  She was such an very important part of my life so this page is dedicated to her.

THE
BOLZAU GATKE
FAMILY TREE

My grandmother's father, Theodor Franz Carl Mohle Bolzau came to the United States from Etteliin, Germany arriving in Tempe, Arizona in 1870.  His parents Andreas Moritz and Louise Henriette Mohle Bolzau were born in Lemgo, Lippe, Germany.

My grandmother's grandparents Frederick William and Dorthea Gatke came from Prussia, Germany in 1855 with their oldest two children, Frederick A. and Caroline Gatke to Canada.  It was here that their last two children William and Jennie, my grandmother's mother, were born.  They then moved to Iowa and finally arrived in Phoenix, Arizona sometime in the 1870's.

My grandmother's parents were married in Phoenix, Arizona on September 13, 1882.  To this union there were three children, Moritz, born July 1883; Henrietta, born Feburary 1885; and my grandmother Meta Louise Bolzau.

Tragedy struck this family while living here in the Phoenix area.  William and Dorthea Gatke, my grandmother's grandparents, lost their youngest son on July 20, 1887.  Their oldest son, Frederick A. Gatke lost his wife, Anna on June 13, 1888 and his daughter Dorthea on July 27, 1888.  They lost their daughter Jennie on September 5, 1889 and Jennie's husband Charles Bolzau on September 6, 1889, these were my grandmother's parents.  Dorthea C. Gatke, my grandmother's grandmother passed away May 12, 1894 and her grandfather Frederick William Gatke on December 17, 1897.  My grandmother's brother Moritz Bolzau passed away in 1901 and her sister Henrietta passed away in October of 1910.  The only surviving members of this family besides my grandmother Meta Louise Bolzau Hazelton, was her aunt Caroline Gatke Warnke Maxon and her five children and three sons of my grandmother's sister Henrietta.

I have been able to locate descendants of Caroline Sophia Warnke Zimmerman, Caroline Maxon's daughter.  She had two other children who had children, Dora and Anestina Warnke but I have not been able to locate any of their descendents.  Frederick W. Gatke, son of Frederick A. Gatke, I do know married a Sadie Stover and they had at least four children but I have not been able to locate any of these descendants.  Anyone having any information on the Gatke, Warnke, Zimmerman, Tredennick or Stover Families that might be related, I would love to hear from you.

I have been very fortunate in locating, with tremendous help from a very dear friend Peter Wendt in Germany, relatives of my mother's father Charles Bolzau.  But anyone who has information or thinks they could possibly be related to the Bolzau or Mohle Families, I would love to hear from you.
