| Matt's influences include, but are not limited to: The Beatles, Counting Crows, Bob Dylan, Ben Folds, Bob Marley, Joni Mitchell, The Velvet Underground, The Who, etc. | ||||||||
| Matt began writing songs in high school before he could play any instruments. He taught himself how to play piano and took to the guitar soon after. While at college in New York (1997-2001), he continued to perfect his guitar skills and songwriting talent. He wrote and recorded his first album entitled "Sold As Is"(Summer 2000). In his senior year (2000-2001), Matt was asked to join a reggae band called Roots & Radicals, playing the keyboard. After graduation, Matt left the band and headed back to RI to continue writing songs with hopes to perform acoustically. | ||||||||
| Matt began writing & recording music for a punk/reggae band he was to form with Josh Rosenthal. Matt met Josh at college and they decided to form a band called Kingpin. Matt recorded what is now known as the "Kingpin Demos" (2001). Unfortunately, Kingpin never left the ground, but the recordings are a great example of Matt's songwriting diversity. | ||||||||
| After switching jobs, Matt met Charles Prescott and James Grogan and formed Global Element (2002-2004). Matt and Chad wrote a number of contemporary rock/reggae songs in hopes to record an album. Global Element played a show in Connecticut which was the only gig for the band. They did record some tracks but unfortunately the band dissolved and the album went unfinished. Two songs from those recording sessions managed to be salvaged; Father Time (C. Prescott) & What You Get (M. Gosselin). From the ashes of Global Element, Matt and Chad (Charez) stuck together to form Chapter Eleven, a rock/reggae band. Chapter Eleven are still striving to put together a cohesive rock album. | ||||||||
| In 2004, Matt recorded a "ticketholder demo" onto a CD. Eight songs in total were recorded in one night, one take each. Matt had no lyrics in front of him, and most of the songs he improvised lyrically and/or musically. Matt has always said that the demo as a whole has a "weary vibe" to it. Matt had been driving for eight (8) hours that day prior to recording this demo. | ||||||||
| Matt continued to work on "ticketholder", but the project was put on hold when a few friends of his formed Negative Nancy, a late 70's style punk band. Matt played lead guitar fronted by Mike B., "Lay-Z" Andrews on bass, and the unpredictable Rex Christy on drums. Matt played with Negative Nancy for a little over a year and a half (6/04-12/05), but decided to leave the band in efforts to finish what he had started so many years ago; the "ticketholder" album. Matt recorded a studio EP with the band and contributed Minor Distraction, a song from the "Kingpin Demos". This song earned itself a solid position on every setlist they played. | ||||||||
