His Best Works
The following books are among those considered to be Jon Scieszka's best works.  Several were illustrated by Lane Smith, although not all of them.  They are listed with teachers, parents, and young readers in mind and a very brief summary of what is contained in them is shown in parentheses on top of the bibliography. These books are of high interest among readers in the elementary level, and all of them are colorfully illustrated. Several have been awarded with different types of awards. For example, Math Curse and The Stinky Cheese Man were awarded the Texas Bluebonnet Award in 1997 and 1995.  Additionally, The Stinky Cheese Man is a Caldecott Honor book. The True Story of the Three Little Pigs is on the Bluebonnet Award Master List and is an ALA Notable book. Squids Will Be Squids and Math Curse are Abby Honor Children'ts Honor books.
Among his many accomplishments, Jon Scieszka has also worked to create a series called the
Time Warp Trio Series in which a group of students travels through time and experiences a number of adventures and plenty of mayhem. Readers learn about different eras such as medieval times, the wild west, ancient Egypt, ancient Rome, and many others. The series is now on book number thirteen (Me Oh Maya) where the characters are taken to the year 1000AD and must play against a Mayan High Priest in order to save their lives.            Because of the comical and nonsensical nature of his books, children of various ages enjoy reading his books.  Readers quickly learn that all rules can be broken in his books.  From the title page, to the back cover of the books, one must read all the fine print in order to avoid missing some of his humorous writing. Parents and teachers find that despite this style of writing, children can acquire knowledge and a broad vocabulary through Jon Scieszka's books.
