Diabetes

I suffer from insulin resistant Type II diabetes. On July 7, 2003, I had gastric bypass surgery. At that time I was injecting 400 units of insulin each day as well as taking two oral diabetes medications. With all that, my diabetes was still not well controlled. Today I take one oral diabetes pill (Avandia), and have been able to stop all insulin injections.

While I did not have to battle with this disease until I was over 40 years old, two sisters and several neices as young as six years old) who are currently living with hypoglycemia which can be a precurser to diabetes. Hypoglycemia is in itself a difficult disorder to live with. I also have many online friends who are diabetic or who have family members (adults and children alike) who are struggling to live with the disease.

Unfortunately, people who are not personally affected by diabetes do not realize what a cruel and often deadly disease this can be. Below are links to sites that I hope will offer education and support to all who are in need.
