Television has gotten a bum rap over the years.  Both "educational" and "commercial" shows are criticized.  However, intelligent programs, those with a plot and intricate character development, are often ignored.  On the other hand, some programs, particularly older ones, are safe.  In these times some folks have "comfort food."  I prefer "comfort tv" and that is what this page is all about:  The  many wonders of television.

Comfort TV
Depressed?  Downsized?  Nervous?  Try watching an episode of  Sesame Street. Just get your favorite snack and curl up under a warm blanket on the living room couch.  Ignore the phone.  Completely immerse yourself in the antics of Big Bird and the gang.  A sure cure for the blues.
The subtle adult humor in Sesame Street goes completely over the heads of the kids. This show is a classic, and needs no more compliments from me.  However, I will tell you that each Muppet has a special trait to help teach preschoolers.  For example, Oscar's grouchiness teaches tolerance for others.  Grover is the ultimate optimist believing in himself because his mommy told him that he can do anything.
Other shows for "comfort":
1.
Mister Rogers Neighborhood (PBS)
2.
The Brady Bunch (Nick at Nite)
3.  Bugs Bunny Cartoons (the Cartoon Network)
4.  Anything narrated by Walter Cronkite
5.
I Love Lucy or Dick Van Dyke
6.
The Cosby Show
7.  Winnie the Pooh and Charlie Brown specials
